I have to link to this guy's Flickr site for this one, but one of my Flickr contacts from Shreveport has a photo of a car in Shreveport with a very familiar logo on it. Very funny, actually. And you can see below his photo that I commented on it and mentioned another car I've seen around Shreveport more than once, which is similar in respect to having a popular logo on it (which I don't believe is truly legal.)

Yay... Friday rush hour through downtown Shreveport.

We're very fortunate, however, that this kind of traffic only occurs during rush hour normally, or in the event of an accident. Our freeway system in Shreveport-Bossier is very advanced and keeps traffic moving fluidly the vast majority of the time. For a city our size, we have an impressive assortment of freeway stacks and enough freeway miles to get people from Point A to Point B with minimal congestion.

I don't evny you, Baton Rouge, as you're quite the opposite. For a city your size you have an incredible amount of traffic, and I believe it's due to an insufficient freeway system in your area. You'd think as state capital you would have the best freeway system in the state.

Cool shots, Brian!

Here's a photo I just found that I really like. Obviously not mine; it is courtesy of Peter Ehrlick at NYCsubway.com

Canal Street, downtown New Orleans:

Nah those were crap shots, just snapshots taken on a wasted photo outing in a city I don't understand why I waste my time photographing.

That shot of Canal Street is nice, though! :)

Classic Canal Street!

Disagreed Brian, those are nice shots and not a waste of time. That's a cool you got an over the top photo! Shreveport has a nice system of freeways.

Poorly planned routes on BR's part and by the Feds is all I can say when the Interstates opened in the early 70's?? Also Airline (Hwy.190) was intended to be a by-pass in the 40's or 50's around.

Thanks. I'm just having a hard time with this city and this state right now. Everything just seems so backward to me and I'm a very progressive thinker. :( I just want us to move forward, not backward.

Don't move to Arkansas. You guys are more progressive in some areas compared to us.

really? :ermm:

Why are you so angry at the state and dare I say Baton Rouge? I mean it's not like the state has become all of a sudden backwards. The state has been ruled by backwards thinking people for decades and Baton Rouge traffic has been bad for a long time, so it's not like all of this has happened over night. I just find it weird that you are so angry and is pin pointing a cities flaw that is so obvious(something that an out of stater would do) :stop: . I believe that we as Louisianians should think of ways to better our cities and come together as one.i

You completely missed the point of my statements. I'm not mad at Baton Rouge, I'm mad at state government, which is based in Baton Rouge. I like Baton Rouge, and I feel that our state government has failed that city just like it has Shreveport and New Orleans.

Of course our state didn't become backward overnight... it's always been that way. Most people here know that I've always wanted to see a change and I've tried so hard to change peoples' views of our cities and our state. But I'm just so sick and tired of fighting and I've gotten tired of politics. The state is not getting any better and I feel at this point Jindal is our only hope. If he can't make a change I'm afraid there is little to no reason for me to stay here. I love this place... it's home... but for the past few months I've been planning my exit. I have things to line out first, so in the meantime I'll be able to give Bobby Jindal 1-2 years to show me that he can do the job. If he can't do it I know none of these other joker politicians we have can do it.

My bad. Sorry about the misinterpretation. I get what you are saying and I guess that I should have asked what you meant before adding my two cents. <_<

It's okay. :) I knew it was just a misunderstanding. I just really struggle with this state at times... and when referring to making changes in state government I often say "making changes in Baton Rouge." Baton Rouge is pretty nice as far as I'm concerned, but our state's government... not so much.

Excellent shots of the skyline, Brian! I'd love to see more if you have them!

Thanks, Nate. Unfortunately I don't get over that way very often... I took that way home recently for a change of pace. But honestly it's actually even more dangerous than the way I go. One of my coworkers goes this way every day and was involved in a 6-car pileup on his way to work on Friday. But it's even more dangerous on that stretch to stop along the bridge like a retard and take pictures... so leave it to me to do that. :P

Quick post here of an EXTREMELY CRAPPY snapshot I took this afternoon during my rush hour commute.

1485777413_8a1fa5b71b_b.jpg

For more information surrounding the shot, here is a detailed description of the photo as I posted it on Flickr:

On my commute home this afternoon I came across the scene of a boat trailer - with the boat attached - straddling the concrete barrier between the east and westbound lanes of traffic along I-20. This was near the Old Minden Road exit.

I quickly jumped off I-20 and found a place to pull over and snap a shot, but it was hard. I ended up in the back of an apartment complex and I was trying to do this quickly so I could get back into traffic and get myself home.

It's hard to tell from this shot but this "accident" had westbound traffic at a crawl all through Bossier. I usually don't take photos of accident scenes, but this is one sight that I'd never seen before during rush hour.

...and if you want to know WHY the shot was so crappy, here is my explanation as I posted it on Flickr:

My apologies for the BAD photo! I was trying to hurry, the sun was beating down, there was a fence post I couldn't get around (hence the vignetting on the right side of the shot.... EVERYTHING was working against me! The little bit of Photoshop work I did just to clean it up a bit made a big difference, but it's still bad. My camera's built-in light meter failed me once again.

This shot was WAY over-exposed, though my camera showed it as exposed correctly. I was metering for the sky, and that obviously didn't happen. Of course I WAS in a big hurry, so it could have been all my fault. It's just more convenient for me to blame the camera. :P

Love that area of SBC. :shades: Nice dense skyline; Space Center looks cool; riverfront done right; flashy casino hotel towers; etc. Boardwalk looks great!! What time do they close in the evenings??

Crazy traffic everywhere. Alot of amatuers on the road; then you add the cell phones and text-messages and the idiots abound! <_<

Thanks Richy. If you're talking about the Boardwalk, the stores close at 9pm every night just like any indoor mall, and 6pm on weekends. The restaurants stay open really late into the night, and the nightclubs are open into the wee hours of the morning. Not sure about the theater. I just wish they would start on that damned hotel already... they were supposed to start a few months ago but nothing has been done. For a while they had even closed off the parking area next to the hotel site because construction was about to commence... but now nothing at all is there and the parking is back open. They also need some residential but the neighborhood next to the Boardwalk (where my parents live) needs to be cleaned up before people could feel safe living AT the Boardwalk. They just had a homicide over there a couple days ago and there are shootings, drug raids, carjackings, robberies, etc over there very often. I don't even go visit my parents anymore because I can't stand just driving down the streets in that neighborhood. The Boardwalk is so nice, but no one would pay high rent to live there with it being just across the levee from that thug-city neighborhood.
