A few Pics from Lake Charles

Ever since I saw the initial proposal for this casino project, I've been impressed with it. Next time I have to go to Houston or San Antonio, I may take the long way just so I can stop in Lake Charles and check this place out.

Great pics, thanks for posting them!

Very Vegas-like ! Glad to see Rita did not cause much to damage to it .

Hibernia Bank Tower dominates the LC Skyline ; but this looks to be about the same height ? They are a few miles apart so it's really hard to say ?

Here's the Hibernia Tower in Downtown Lake Charles

This isn't one of my photos, but I liked it when I saw it on Google. The red streetcars should be back up and running on Canal Street and on the Riverfront in the next few months, and hopefully the Saint Charles Ave. line will be back up and running in the coming months as well. :D

Nice pic Nate. I like how they have cemeteries on there. Is that an actual stop?

Yep, it's an actual stop. Just to add to what Brian said, the cemetaries are a very popular tourist attraction. I'm sure you've heard all about the above-ground cemeteries that New Orleans is famous for. In this case, the streetcar is headed up-river, and one of the final stops on the (current) line are the cemeteries, which are just outside of what is considered to be the CBD.

I can't remember which ones they were but it seems like I've seen some movies use the cemeteries there. I do get the impression they aren't quite like most cemeteries you see anywhere else in the US.

Yea, there are more movies and T.V. shows than I could possibly think of that have used shots of New Orleans' above ground cemeteries. Finding these cemeteries outside of parts of south Louisiana is no easy task. They are definately high on the list of things unique to SE Louisiana and New Orleans.

^No problem, Rod! :D

Just for a type of reference, here is a (pretty bad) shot of an above ground cemetery just outside of New Orleans in Metairie, along I-10.

Hey, I know that cemetery!! That's the first clear sign around Metairie that you're pretty much in New Orleans. Thanks for that pic. I also believe there's an above-ground cemetery in Opelousas, just north of Lafayette. Correct me if I'm wrong, someone.

^Man how thing's changed! :D

Wow. You can even see in that pic, some 51 years in the past, how big New Orleans was even back then.
