I know where you're coming from about smudges. I got a PSP system a couple of weeks ago and the screen takes on smudges like I don't know what. If your finger is in a one inch radius, it will get a smudge. Luckily I have some CD cleaner and it clean all the mess right off. Never wipe things like that with your shirt or a course towel beacuse that will leave little scratches. Thankfully I figured that out before I got more that 2 or 3.

Yea I know the PSP screen's are horrible with smudges and scratches. I don't have one, but a few of my friends do and the screens are even worse than my iPod.

I got mine at Circuit City when I was picking up my camera bag. Definately worth the $10 you pay for it.

Awesome, Nate, thanks! I bet Best Buy has one, then. I wish the salesman dude would have sold me on one of those... I'd have taken it in a heartbeat!!!

-------------------------------------------------

Anyway... here we go with my first Shreveport-Bossier representation on this thread in quite some time. I just posted this in the SBC forum, so here I figured I'd post it here as well:

Over in the SBC forums, we were discussing the Barnwell Center the other day. Well, I stopped in there today to take some photos of the place and I was talking to the security guy. He said the renovations will start in 2 months and that there were renderings on display in the lobby. Imagine my excitement!!!

SO... here are the renderings. :D

This is going to be awesome! Right now the botanical garden part is housed in a round area with a domed ceiling. The new garden will be in an octagonal area with a pointed roof. The roof will have a decorative spire that will be lit at night. The biggest improvement, however, will be the 8 vents in the roof!!! Being in there today, and wanting to pass out for the extreme heat and humity, made me realize just how much ventilation is needed. Can you imagine what it probably felt like in there last week when the temperature hit 105!?!? OUCH!!!

I thought it sucked that the plaza out back will now be enclosed as well, but I got to thinking about that... as I was there, a bum came up, smelling like alcohol, and just went to sleep on a bench in the plaza. I then thought back to all the times I've had bums come up to me there in the plaza, panhandling, and suddenly I realized what a great idea it is afterall!

That looks like a great project, Brian! I really like the look of the octoganal roof and spire.

Yeah, I hope in the end it turns out nice. The lighted spire will make a nice addition to the riverfront at night, since there is so much light around there already. It should blend right in. As it is, the Barnwell is just so ridiculously dark at night.

This renovation project has been needed for SO long. I kind of hoped for a bit of an expansion, but really that would be hard to do. It buts right up to Riverfront Park on the east side, El Dorado Casino on the north side, Clyde Fant Parkway on the west side, and the Police/Firefighters memorial on the south side. There really is no room for expansion, although I did once envision and sketch out my own proposal in which a second floor was added and extended out over the police/fire memorial. It would have expanded the existing facility while creating a covering for the memorial. I wish I still had that sketch.

That's one I don't recall having seen before.

Very nice, and the contrail really adds another dimension to it.

Thanks, and I agree about the contrial. It's just visible enough to clearly see, but just faint enough to not draw any attention away from the main subject of the picture.

Yeah, the building catches your eye. The blue sky is a nice backdrop, and then the contrail is a bonus. A lot going on there, but not distracting in the least.

^Both some very nice photos, Brian.

In the first one, I really like the train crossing the Red River in the backround, that's just cool to me. And I really like the view of the riverfront and the awesome Horseshoe Casino in the backround of the second photo.

Thanks, Nate. I intentionally took the train photos. Once I heard it coming I started trying to find a good position. Here are a couple more with the train, including the front engines in this first photo:

By the way, all these photos look 10x better in their large 4mb versions!!! I hate the quality loss when I make them smaller, but oh well. I hope everyone enjoys anyway! :D

^I had never actually realized that was a train bridge over the Red River. I like the look of it, and the old gritty feel it gives off. And also, I've always thought those rose light's on the riverfront looked awesome, and they seem to fit in very well with the surrounding area.

Yeah the rose sculptures are gorgeous, in my opinion, and have a meaning as well, since Shreveport is home to the American Rose Society and their Gardens of the American Rose Center. I thought Riverfront Park was nice before, but once they came back with the hard edge, the brick patterns and stained concrete, and the rose sculptures, I'd NEVER go back to the way the park was before. And I've also seen fewer homeless people in the park since the renovation, I believe because they got rid of all the overgrown vines and such that were blocking the view into the park from the street.

And yep, that's a rail bridge. You have the Texas Street bridge just to the north of it and the I-20 bridge just to the south.

I'm really going to have to spend some time on Shreveport's riverfront one of the days, it looks great. And it seems like there's been a lot of work on it over the last few years, which is nice to see considering some cities just let their riverfront go to a complete waste.

Shreveport was once on that very same track. I'm glad things changed. It really is a waste to see any city's waterfront go to hell.

Baton Rouge can also take a lesson from Shreveport's attractive riverfront. BR has not neglected it's riverfront, but it seemed to do a half a_s job. The riverfront is an asset that should be fully utilized.

BTW Brian nice pics you took. That train on the bridge with the Horseshoe in the background is sweet ! Thanks for taking the pic in the lobby of the Barnwell Center. It's nice, that's a clear pic your camera took.

Nice pic Nate of the 481 ft. tower too. Wish my city had a 481 foot high-rise to take a pic of.

^Well, hopefully Kip will some how pull of the riverfront plan, although it will probably be a while in the making. And it will also be spiffed up when the RiverPlace Condominiums finally are finished.

Thanks for posting that Brian. That's great to see the support up there. It's not like the Saints. Northern Louisiana produces some great football talent. Powerhouses West Monroe, Evangel, Fair Park, Ruston, Bastrop, etc. have been good to the Tigers!!! The LSU program would not be the same without them.
