Anyone here ever had any contact with Ralph Hauenstein? He spoke at my graduation a couple years ago, and holy crap, that guy is unbelievable. (I'm assuming its the same guy)

Its the first I've ever heard of Ralph Haustein...

on that note, a little bump, cause this project is intriguing (and looks neat) even if its going to be in a sea of surface parking

Actually, it will be right out at Cherry with a parking ramp West of it on the corner of Cherry and Lagrave. The surface lots are all being corralled to the South and West of St. Mary's.

Now is St. Mary's doing anything with this land or is it still slated to become another parking lot?

Parking in the near term, and they're pitching this site to MSU for the new Med School. They also have plans to eventually build an office building, but who knows when.

Might be a hard sell as MSU would need access to VAI's research facilities. Plus Spectrum is donating heavily to the Med School and would probably not like the idea of the Med School setting next door to a competing hospital.

Thanks for the heads up Gary.

A lot of demo going on in St Mary's neighborhood (including Schnitzelbank not in this collection)

I might get scorned for this, but I'll miss the Xavier -- it's always provided for an interesting height difference in the neighborhood.

MSU has partnered up with both Spectrum and St. Mary's. As the article states, if MSU is leasing space in VAI than I would think they would want to be very close. Unless we have a inter-transit system that will shuttle between the two campuses.

I notised last night that the whole bottom floor is nearly see-through. Are they really gutting the building slowly, or are they preparing it for implosion?

There's no way they'll implode a 10 story building "connected to" a hospital. At least, I don't think they would intentionally. My guess is a crane will show up next week with a wrecking ball.
