From what was reported in late 2005. 2006 may spell a great year for Jobs across the area.

If the 1st American Kia Assembly Plant is built in Aiken County then they would employ around 2,500 people, in addition to the thousands of potential spinoff jobs a plant like this can bring.

Kellogg plant in Augusta is adding around 80 more jobs to it's expansion of the old Murray buscuit plant

NBTY Vitamin company is taking over the old Bill's Dollar store distribution plant in South Augusta, adding around 600 jobs in about 3 years

And as announced this past year, 4 NEW lifestyle centers to be open by 2007 will also boot the job market as well as the local economy. The Villeges at Riverwatch expects to create up to 850 new jobs to the area.

Looks like the Aiken county can kiss the Kia facility goodbye. From what i read in this article, Aiken co. looks to be off the list of contenders now. Sad, but I didnt have my hope up too high for this anyway.

GA still has a chance though. West Point (25 miles north of Columbus and 65 miles south of Atlanta) has a good chance of getting it. It is in a perfect location because Montgomery, Auburn, Columbus, and Atlanta are close by. Montgomery and Auburn have car related plants. West Point is an ideal location right off of I-85.

Kimberly-Clark adding 150 new jobs. Was in todays Augusta Chronicle.

Plant Vogtle in Burke County is trying to get approval for two new nuclear reactors. If added, this would create 2000 construction jobs for 10 years and would double the current employee numbers.

^ Thanks for that link. At first I was a little upset that it was going to be a call center, but it appears that they actually want real qualified people to work there. Good job to the leaders of this town for once!!!

I just checked out their website and these guys seem pretty professional to me. This is great for the metro area.

I wonder how large the ADP solutions center will be and where it will be located? At 30 million dollars and employing 1000 people, it will have to be large. Lets hope they go vertical instead of one of those spread out lowrise call centers you normally see.

Fort Gordon is starting to get in on the growth/ jobs trend. With a state-of-the-art intelligence center the fort will add 1500 jobs, local and tranfers. What kind of city Augusta will be 2010?

New call center or back office jobs might be headed to Augusta. It will bring 350 jobs to the CSRA if it chooses Augusta. new jobs

These announcements have taken place within the past 30 days in Aiken County:

Bridgestone Firestone North America Tire, LLC recently announced that it will invest at least $33 million in its Aiken, S.C., tire plant over the next four years to add new production equipment as well as retool existing equipment. With its announcement in January of a $17 million plant upgrade, the company will be investing at least $50 million in the Aiken County tire facility over five years. Most recently the plant added a new mixer, modified its tire assembly system and hired 36 new teammates.

Global Investment Recovery, Inc., an international recycler of computers, telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics, and classified military electronics, has completed the acquisition of a 65,000 square foot facility in Salley, S.C. and began recycling operations in July 2006. Due to the increasing demand for electronics recycling, the Company has also agreed to lease an additional 60,000 square foot facility to expand this new operation. Global has converted the former Salley Manufacturing Plant to a modern electronics recycling facility including a state-of-the-art 400 HP shredding system.

Newman Technology South Carolina Inc. recently broke ground on a $4 million facility expansion that will enable it to increase capacity and create 40 new jobs. Located in the Ventures Industrial Park in Aiken, S.C., the new building will provide an additional 47,000 square feet of operating capacity.

Great developments. Thanks for the link Krazee. Canuk, I agree with you. Those call center jobs (for the most part) do not pay much and they have high turnover from what I've heard.
