And now, the much anticipated Trip Back From Arkansas :P

Highway 71 just after crossing back into Louisiana

The very small town of Ida,LA, near the border. Ida has a population of around 200.

And here it is folks! My favorite shot of the Shreveport skyline!

The Shreveport skyline in the morning, with the Red River in the foreground

^Yea I know, its not that great. But I think it came out well for a picture taken while moving 75mph. :D

Next Up, Bossier City-LA/MS border!

^ I liked these pics alot! I like landscapes of farmland, roadways, etc. Cool stuff.

Thanks, Rural King!

That is an interesting shot of the Shreveport skyline with the Red River. I'm curious did you use any zoom on that shot Nate?

I used enough zoom to get most of the interstate bridge siding out of the picture, so I used a little bit of zoom.

^I didn't know that Ida was that small. On our way back to Georgia from Texarkana we used to stop at that gas station to buy Lotto tickets.

Really? Thats pretty cool. Ida, along with all of the small towns in NW Louisiana between Shreveport and the border, seem to be more dead time I travel up to Arkansas, which is unfortunate. The people in those small towns are very friendly.

Here are the rest of my photos! These are from my trip across Louisiana on I-20

The view from the overpass of I-220, getting onto I-20

Bossier City

Harrah's Louisiana Down's horse racetrack in Bossier City, a huge money maker for the area. Most of the gamblers come here from Arkansas.

Coming into Ruston,LA, home of the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech University!

To finish it off, a crappy downtown and partial skyline shot of Monroe,LA. Those 18-wheelers got me again! ;)

And that's all folks! I hope you enjoyed at least some of my pics. :D

Though I still have pictures from Arkansas to post, and those will be in the main Arkansas forum.

Thanks for the pics Nate. I was curious do many city and town have corp limit on the bottom? I like how in Arkansas they tend to put population at the bottom of our city limits signs. I've noticed out west in states like New Mexico they tend to put elevation on the bottom of theirs instead.

^It depends most of the time. Most of the small towns tend to put "corps limit," while the mid sized cities have either corps limit or population, and many of the larger cities have both, depending on what road you are coming in on. I know of four or five major roads going into New Orleans that have "Population 496,964" on them, or it will just say "New Orleans", as the city is co-existent with Orleans Parish.

Thanks. Yea that crane looks to be finishing the Hollywood Casino on the banks of the Red River.

Oh no I was riding as a passenger. I would never attempt most of these pictures while driving! :D

Great pics from your trip. Just a note, though... if those pics were taken in January, then the crane is actually at the site of the new convention center hotel. The Hollywood hotel (now Eldorado) has been there for a couple of years.

I always enjoyed the skyline before the casinos started building hotels, but I appreciate it more now that there are 4 hotels over 12 stories on thbe skyline. The convention center hotel is going to be 12 stories as well, and should be finished later this year. It will carry the Hilton brand.

Don't forget "The Wing King... The King of All Wings"... Seriously, the best name of a wing place I've ever seen.

Just a side note... I've never been to Wing King, but one of my co-workers loves the place and he swears you can get a side of fried rice with your wings... no kidding. It's a local chain and supposedly the guy who started it used to be a cook at one of the Japanese restaurants in the Shreveport area. Something like Shogun. Anyway, they say he does a good business with wings and fried rice, but whatever... to each his own I suppose. ;) I like fried rice and I like chicken wings, but dang...

By the way, you went right past my house on that trip. I live not too far off I-20 about 5 miles east of Harrah's Louisiana Downs.

Oh and that little gas station in Ida... I literally used to drive down there every Sunday from Texarkana just to get my Sunday copy of the Shreveport Times. I was told by a manager at the Texarkana Books A Million that there is some long-standing dispute between the Shreveport Times and the Texarkana Gazette, so the Shreveport Times completely stopped distributing to the entire state of Arkansas. Beats me!!!

I had a feeling that it was the convention center hotel, but I wasn't sure. But I have no idea why I said it was finishing up the Hollywood Hotel, I know that was finished a few years ago.

Maybe next time I'll stop by and say hi! :D

BTW, I didn't know that there was a dispute between the Shreveport Times and the Texarkana Gazette. I've noticed that I really never saw any Shreveport paper's around SW Arkansas, but I never really thought about it.
