mcheiss 1 Report post Posted January 10, 2006 How large is this art district?
fromdust 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2006 i should have used community instead of district. this is were the starving artist of the city live and have set up their galleries. this was built in 1929 as the first commercial shopping district north of downtown. jbrown84 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2006 It's hard to say how big The Paseo is. It very much blends with the Asian district as well as Midtown to the south. The actual Spanish-style buildings pictured I don't believe make up a very large area, but culturally the area is of significant size along 23rd street between Western and Broadway. It includes a lot of "bohemian" kind of places like 23rd Street Body Piercing, thrift stores, vintage clothing stores, trendy cafes like the above pictured Galileo's and the Blue Note, and art galleries. It's no Haight-Ashbury, but it's a unique little area if you like cultural diversity.
