What happened to the BRT line on the development map?  I thought it was there before.

Also, I need to get smart on how to update it.  Any instructions out there?  I don't want to mess anything up, but I do want to help keep it up-to-date.

Just asking again if there are any instructions on how to update this map.  Do I need some sort of special permissions granted to do it?  I just don't see any way of updating it (to me, it appears locked).  Perhaps only the author can updated it.  If that is the case, I might be able to submit a list of items to add.  Just let me know.

Also, I see where the BRT and the Bike Share are additional categories, but why don't they turn on automatically when you bring up the map?  Instead, I have to go in and click on those categories to turn them on every time.  Wonder if this is the case for everyone else who looks at our map?

It shouldn't be. The access permissions allow anyone with the link to edit. Try my link, the one in the signature

I got in using your link (had to sign into Google), but there is no "sign-in" button for me on the map when I click the link on the UP Development Map page.  If I update the map using your link, will it automatically load my changes onto the map on the UP Development Map page?

In a way, I think it is good that not everyone can go in and change things at random on the UP Development Map page, but I think that those on this board who request permissions (those we trust) should be able to make changes.  Just not sure how to go about doing that.

One more thing...even using your link, I still had to click the category for BRT and the bike share for those icons to populate the map.  I think all the categories should come up automatically.  Is there a way to tweak that for all the categories to come up?

I changed the default view (hopefully for all).  See if the BRT and Bike Share populates by default now.

^^^That's still strange that you don't seem to have that access though. Everyone (at least on the Richmond subforum) seemed to be fine before the link went up to the top bar

Yeah, not sure what the deal is.  Do you get any button or some kind of link that allows you to sign in and/or edit?

Oh wait....I just tried it on my phone and it worked. Because I have to use my fingers it became a mess there for a minute. I hope I didn’t screw something up (yikes!)

I'm not a huge casino fan - but facts are they draw in people looking to spend money and have a good time.  With recent article about Pamunkey tribe looking also to a downtown casino location - wouldn't it make sense for the Casino to be integrated into the new coliseum project or land directly adjacent (is there anything adjacent available on Broad Street).  Seems like the perfect location as far as being a destination location in the city.   They would also be able to help in some of the infrastructure costs and getting the coliseum project jump started with their investors' deep pockets right now.

Destination location / Mass Transit availablilty / intersection of 2 major interstates

Pamunkey Hard Rock - Richmond?  Anyone?

Coliseum / Concerts / Bars / Restaurants / Live Music / Casino - your talking a multi block destination venue that could put Richmond on the map for many major acts and events.  The two projects together can bring a lot of people and their wallets into downtown Richmond and benefit both parties.   *come for a concert - stay for the casino*  *come for the casino - stay for the night life*

I wonder if NH District Group has reached out to the tribe and that is why they are actually exploring that avenue as well now.  Seems the two groups, if they worked together, could make for a well funded mega project downtown.

And the great thing about all of this - its not the City of Richmond trying to force a venue down the taxpayers throats - this is private investment.   Yes the city should incentivize it - but there isn't much for the naysayers to complain about.

Aren’t they building on land the tribe purchased recently in New Kent?

Not necessarily. That is just ONE of the options. The last article I read in the RTD said that they have another option that is right in the city of Richmond. Not sure where in the city, but it sure makes for fun speculating!

Quote from the article:

"The tribe has already secured more than 600 acres in New Kent County, but Gray says that land is one option of many.  Another would be a more urban casino in the city of Richmond, which the tribe considers part of its homelands.

Of course not ALL kids in the City live in poverty, but I’m not making up that most kids attending RPS schools come from poverty...

“High poverty schools are located all across the state, although they are most concentrated in the Greater Richmond and Hampton Roads regions — two areas of the state with high percentages of Virginia’s Black population. Richmond City has the most of any division with 29, and almost two-thirds (63%) of students in the division are enrolled in one of these high poverty schools”

http://www.thecommonwealthinstitute.org/2017/10/26/unequal-opportunities-fewer-resources-worse-outcomes-for-students-in-schools-with-concentrated-poverty/

And, for perspective... we DO choose to live in the City, we aren’t in poverty, and our oldest WILL be attending Linwood Holton next year for Kindergarten.  But it doesn’t change the reality for most kids attending city schools and the fact that many middle/upper class families still choose to move or go private.

This all depends on what reporting agency you go by and what definitions of poverty you use. Based on your supplied information  the study goes off of households that kids qualify for free lunch  based on an income of less that 43k per year however, the range of  what is considered middle income is varied by many reporting agencies. Therefore I can't say that this would be an accurate assessment. There is a difference between low income and poverty by the numbers.

All I am saying is the word poverty does not seem like an accurate description of  city schools and students.  There are many kids that live in poverty in any city . But I would say more are borderline low income verses living in poverty.

My point about schools was really boils down to how it impacts the population center.

When I think of a Downtown I think of a large district that is central to the regions workers.  When I look at RVA's downtown, it does not seem very central to the majority of middle class families.

I would like to see Downtown become the population center, however it seems like the center of population is moving away from it.  To me, the main driver of that is schools.

Meh.  The small political boundary of the city of Richmond is probably about the size of the urbanized/downtown area of a large city (where people with children don’t typically live anyway, regardless of the school).  You don’t need to live in the city when it only takes 10 minutes to drive downtown from Short Pump, 20 from Midlothian.

I’m totally  fine with Richmond only being home to single people and empty nesters.

Heh, not probably, it pretty much is from comparisons I have made in the past.  That is what has hurt us and similar independent cities (City of Baltimore, St. Louis) in Per Capita ratings such as homicides and poverty.

Hopefully we get an HQ relo this year.

We could really use a new, good HQ relo!  A relo downtown would just be icing on the cake, but I hope things are moving in that direction.  It's been a while since we've had a good one.  It would be interesting to know who the GRP is working with, but we will never know that kind of information (nor would I want knowing to jeopardize them coming to Richmond)!
