The park is undergoing an expansion. Certain areas of the park are closed off while improvements are being made.

Lake James is a gem of a state park. While it is a bit of an effort to get there, it is well worth it, especially if you like to camp. Lake James is one of the most beautiful lakes in NC.

Lake James in indeed a very nice state park. I was very glad when they were able to purchase the addition property for expansion.

I figured I'd post this here as well, an article from yesterday's Charlotte Observer about the future Hickory Nut Gorge State Park. I'm really looking forward to this park, it could be open by 2008.

Its curious that the Charlotte Observer article didn't mention the Carolina Climbers Coalition and the grass roots efforts we (CCC), took to make the Hickory Nut Gorge State Park a reality.
