Rebirth of Downtown Chattanooga (2006 and on)

Recommended Posts

I was scared for a moment and thought the Pickel Barrel had closed as that is in another Flatiron building downtown and then I looked closer. Glad to see they are still alive and well. That is one of my Go To places when I visit Chattanooga.

This is why I love downtown Chattanooga, they have so many older unique buildings there.

I found this information and rendering on the architect's web site. I'll check on the status. It's beautiful. It needs to be another 10 floors.

Just copying this to this page so it doesn't get lost too soon and I'm adding a copy of the current status of what's proposed and under construction from the marketing report River City Company had done.

There are some interesting facts about the hotel market in Chattanooga.

And this find of mine is not official, but some of the renderings of the 'The Bend' project show a hotel on the riverfront with what appears to be a 'W' logo on the highest part of the building. Hmmm.

A 'W' hotel would be a huge get.

Pete, I recall seeing an article  in TFP about two Sundays ago on the subject of new hotels (around 2000 new rooms) being planned or u/c in downtown.  However, I just tried a quick search and could not find it. Do you have anything on that? I'm sure it was in the past 2 weeks.

More on the groundbreaking for the new Embassy Suites hotel per the Chattanooga Times Free Press, including my updated card.

Quote

Chattanooga’s biggest hotel operator plans to make the biggest new investment in downtown in more than a decade by building a $54 million Embassy Suites hotel at Fourth and Broad streets. Vision Hospitality broke ground Monday for a 184-room hotel and conference facility the company plans to build over the next two years beside the Majestic 12 Theater in the 300 block of Broad Street.

...

The seven-story hotel will feature 5,000 square feet of meeting space, including an event center and a rooftop bar, along with 4,800 square feet of retail space along Broad Street for a street-level restaurant, bar and coffee area and restaurant, Patel said.

Just across the river from downtown the Chattanoogan.com has a report about a proposed apartment complex that will be on the river with a boardwalk and access to a marina. There are some interesting renderings, but other information regarding who the developers are and how many units there will be is not included. I am making a guess that there will be about 150 units. Some quotes....

Developers said it was decided to have the parking as part of the buildings, though that is more expensive. That way a wooded portion of the property that abuts Renaissance Park can be retained as a nature area instead of used as a surface parking lot, it was stated.

A board walk is planned along the river at the rear of the project, officials said. There will be access at the river to a boat dock.

And a few renderings (the map is my design) ....
