Possible Casino for Fort Payne

A man named David Hammonds is selling 69 acres of land in the Fort Payne area to the Keetowah branch of the Cherokee. It is likely that the tribe will build a casino on the site. It will be similar to other indian casinos near Montgomery. You can read the Huntsville Times article here.

This casino should give Northeast Alabama a needed economic boost. The area has suffered from recent textile plant closings (Ft Payne is known as the "Sock Capital of the World"). However, this casino is being put in an area that is against gambling of any sort, and might cause protest among the local residents. So, is this a good/bad idea?

I'm not really a casino fan, but I really hope this actually happens. Fort Payne is a neat little town and this would be an economic benefit to the area.
