Celebrity sightings

Well at work today, I swear I saw a customer that was either Kelly Monaco or her twin. I wouldn't doubt that there are celebrities crawling alover the place. Just think about it, Grand Rapids plays a real low key and is very seldom in the national spotlight. So my question to you is, have you ever caught a glimse of a celeb just out and about around Grand Rapids? I do know my friend lives across the street from a Piston... :whistling:

A (for lack of a better word) friend of mine in college waited on John Mayer and his band at Fridays downtown. After his stay here he wrote on his road journal: "On a Sunday afternoon Grand Rapids is neither Grand nor Rapid."

Not an out and about story but somewhat humorous none the less........

Way back in the day, I somehow got dragged over to the parking lot at B-93 when they were over next to the Holiday Inn on Ann St. It was during something called a roof sit, I think it was for charity.

Anywho, Billy Ray Cyrus was there and when he left he walked past me and the person I was with. Of course the person that I was with stopped him and asked for an autograph. He then proceded to sign my t-shirt with a permanant maker which I didn't ask for.

Waste of a good t-shirt if you ask me.

If this person was female, Mr Ray should have signed something else...

I did not talk to Brad or Brett but I did say hello to Ginger. She was very nice.

Yeah andy...i guess I watch WOODTV for all my local news:)

This represents Grand Rapids celeb-ish sightings for me. I did meet the Red Hot Chili Peppers and River Phoenix (before he died) on the beach in Costa Rica years ago.

That has to count for something;)

I have to edit my John Mayer comment. It was his road guy who said: "Grand Rapids… a town that, on a Sunday, is not so grand and not so rapid. On our day off, we ate at TGI Friday’s and went bowling. Why? Those were the only two places open other than our hotel. I mean, downtown was about as rapid as downloading an MPEG of the 2001 NSYNC VMA performance on a 56K modem, if you know what I me-oh, nevermind."

By the way this was written on 8-4-03.

I've seen Tom Van Howe everywhere... at the Red G, at his restaurant in Holland, in a bathroom brawl at the Sierra Room... I'm kidding aabout the brawl part, must have been his evil twin Tom Van Howeyalikemenow ;)

that's all I can admit to in print.

if you want real celebrity sightings, move to lower manhattan.

I thought I was the only one who enjoyed the antics of Mr. Howyalikemenow.

I was about to ask which Piston. I don't live near Grand Rapids but I work at a Kroger's in Plymouth (west of Detroit) and Lindsey Hunter comes in all the time. He drives a hummer, I've actually seen him with 2 different ones. Lindsey doesn't bother to park in the parking lot, he just parks right by the entrance right by where the cars are going by. A kid I know from the schools basketball team lives next door to him.

The only person that I've seen was Lee Van Amyde from WZZM 13 (although he's not really a celebrity) at the Picnic Pops.

He looked really grouchy when I first saw him. I was going to come up to him and comment about one of his articles on the WZZM 13 website, but I didn't want to anger him.

This may surpirse people but GR is actually a destination location for the rich and famous - for one reason.

On the seventh floor of the Exhibitor's Building (the one attached to the Amway) is a world renowned platic surgury clinic. Famous people of all sorts have been in and out of this place. The biggest draws are the fact that GR is out of the spotlight and they can stay next to the clinic in a hotel which by all means meets their needs and desires. Not to mention, the clinic gives 24/7 support in the hotel, offers security, and is out of the way and pretty much unkown to locals.

I have ridden up their plenty of times and have seen numerous people covered with masks and blankets being escorted by security guards. Normal people getting plastic surgury do not get these extras...

Don't believe me. Check it out for yourself. The press also had an article about it years ago. Countless stars stay at the Amway every year for this reason alone. Probably why is consistantly makes the top 25-50 rank in terms of US hotels. I have even seen it on top 25 world hotel lists.
