NCB 1 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 With all of the residential tower development going on in the New Orleans area, I figured it was about time for the city to have it's own development thread. I'm going to start working on it right now, and should have quite a bit of developments in here by this evening.

Mith242 70 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 It's actually pretty far away from the central part of The Quarter. You have to go a block down, and then two blocks over across Canal Street, which is like a city block in itself, before you get to the French Quarter. There is a height limit of 88 feet for buildings in downtown very near The Quarter, and this has been a major obstacle for a recently proposed 320 foot condo tower right next to The Quarter. Yeah I guess I've gotten too used to Fayetteville's small blocks, especially in the areas I've been taking pics in. The older part of town has some pretty small blocks. The older part of town has some pretty small blocks. Certain older areas of New Orleans are like this, but as you get into the more modern parts of town the blocks become much bigger. NCB 1 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 BTW, I've been working on a New Orleans development map for a couple of weeks now, but I have no idea how to post it on UP. My goal is to make a development map for the entire New Orleans metro area, and then move over to Baton Rouge.

But he couldn't find a way to post it to UP. He asked but no one else knew either and we suggested he asked Neo. I haven't heard anymore since then. tombarnes 1 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 Not bad, though I too think the name is over the top. The building looks like So. Florida instead of New Orleans. Of course, lots of this stuff will be put up on the Coast soon too. I wish there were a way to make these towers more representative of their regions. Yea, it seems like the only way to make a new tower represent the New Orleans area is to put the fake historic architecture on it, which I cant stand. Though most of the towers along the lakefront in New Orleans alreadly look south Florida like.
ironchapman 2 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 (edited) The building's very nice (reminds me of some here in Atlanta ), but the name is kind of cheesy. That rendering makes it look kind of isolated, like it's in the middle of nowhere as opposed to in a city. NCB 1 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 That rendering makes it look kind of isolated, like it's in the middle of nowhere as opposed to in a city. Yea I noticed this as well. The tower is located in the Lake Marina neighborhood on the Lake Ponchartrain lakefront, where there are around seven towers between 20-30 storeys proposed, and already quite a few high rise condos. So, it'll have some to make it look a little less lonely then? That's good to hear.

tombarnes 1 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 (edited) Maybe it's the green roof (which I really don't mind) or the redering of the surrounding landscape, but the Northshore Marina looks like it could be in Coeur d'Alene instead of Slidell. Nice project though. Edited January 23, 2006 by tombarnes

TSmith 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2006 I inquired about a condo in the Vanage Tower on Friday. The realtor said that they are indeed selling, and that they expect to meet their pre-construction goal of 60% sold sometime this Summer. Should be interesting to watch.
