According to emporis, the 316 foot "100 North Rampart" Tower was approved. This tower is 232 feet taller than the zoning regulations for its area, and faced heavy opposition due to this fact and its close proximity to the French Quarter. I hadn't heard that it had been approved, but does anyone else have any info?

New Orleans' newest renovation project, the American Can Company building has been transformed into apartments and has been renovated as a "certified historic rehabilitation." The project includes soho style apartments as well as one, two, and three bedroom apartment homes containing up to 1,600 square feet.

That's an impressive list of projects there ! And all this posted in one day too ! I like the looks of them all ! Is the proposed Gabriel on undeveloped land ? I did not know there was that much vacant land in Kenner. That's some serious $$cheez to live in one of those mansion's !

The 25 story Vantage Tower was unanimously approved by the New Orleans City Council on April 25th. :yahoo:

Yes, that one looks cool. I'm glad it was approved by the city council. The city council would be stupid to turn anything down.

On that subject, last time I was in New Orleans, I watched a city council meeting on TV and it was the most chaotic thing I'd ever seen. Those people all genuinely seemed to hate one another. It was a debacle, so to see them coming to unanimous decisions for positive projects is great.

That's crazy.

I've watched so many Shreveport City Council meetings, and from time to time their arguments can turn personal and people can get at one another. But for the first and only city council meeting I've watched in New Orleans to be as bad as it was, it was shocking.

That's New Orleans politics for you. Corruption and stupidity are two things that run rampant in New Orleans politics, and that is something that has to change under whoever the next mayor is if we want the city to rebuild stronger than it was before.

...and Louisiana in general, unfortunately. :rolleyes:

and that is something that has to change under whoever the next mayor is if we want the city to rebuild stronger than it was before.

Good luck with that. As much as I want that for your city, I wouldn't hold my breath. The system, in general, ruins people.

Oh believe me I know. But things are already steadily improving, especially the public school system, and that alone is something to be happy about.

Ive got to visit New Orleans soon! Downtown has bounced back nicely since last years goings on. Seems like a spur of development has overtaken. Good to hear all the way up in ole Virginny'

I noticed you guys have a Mortons Steakhouse. Ive been to the one here, good food :D

And yea we've got a Mortons, actually, it seems like we've got every steakhouse you could think of, including the first Ruth's Chris! :thumbsup:

Those brick sidewalks really add alot and look great with those Palm Trees !

New Orleans is on the move once again ! Great to hear !

I thought so too, and it's definately great to see activity picking up in the city once again! :D
