New Orleans Development Thread

Here's more on the Lincoln Beach project. The developer has a pretty impressive resume including Lakeway 3 that was put up several years ago at the lake by the Causeway. They mention that there are detailed renderings of the Lincoln Beach project on their website but I couldn't find them. They also mention developements on Haynes Blvd. Lincoln Beach is at the end of Franklin Ave. isn't it?

Glad to hear the redevelopment is moving forward. I'm really interested in hearing the details behind Blakely's targeted redevelopment plans for the city this week as well.

:offtopic: On another note, I turn 30 today. My wife was joking that the Viagra is already on order.

Remember, if you have an erection that last more than 7 hours; call a friend and Brag!!!

Actually, Lincoln Beach is in New Orleans East, on Haynes way out between Bullard and Paris Rd. Quite a bit more remote than at the end of Franklin, which is where the still-dormant UNO Lakefront Arena is located.

Here's more on the Lincoln Beach project. I now realize this is totally different and miles apart from the proposed 200m Nolatown project by the same people. I'd be surprised if either gets off the ground any time soon.

I had previously opined in favor of tearing down the WTC but 160m is an enormous amount of money to put into that project. That's more than a third of the cost of Trump Tower and more than double the cost of the proposed 37 story building at 930 Poydras. Surely they'll do something impressive with that kind of money.

Very cool Nate! I definitely wouldn't mind some of that Vodka.

Back to the main topic. I certainly hope that this Lincoln Beach project comes through. In the long run, I think NOE would be a very desireable place to live. It has a suburban feel, but is only a few mintues to the CBD. The main issue for that area is getting the MRGO closed off.

I am anxiously waiting to hear the proposals from Dr. Blakely. He said there would an announcement this week of his plans, but I haven't heard anything yet. My guess is they will be unveiled on Friday. Enough time for everyone to digest them over the weekend. Everytime I hear him speak, I get a nice dose of optimism. I also like his more forecful attitude about things. He doensn't coddle to the people, but just says what he wants and damn the consequences. I expect alot of backlash after his plans are unveiled, but he cannot be detered by those who are happy with the status quo. No sane person should be happy with the status quo of the city right now. Nagin may be off his rocker right now, but getting this guy here is a big plus for his second term, IMHO. He just needs to ignore the obstructionist mentality of certain city council members and get this recovery going full steam ahead.

Sorry for the rant.

I'm sure the steel mill asked for the sky knowing full well they would not get offered that, but hoping for something better than if they hadn't asked for it.

I saw the site for the Tracage all fenced off on Annunciation this weekend...it is nice to see progress on that. I also noticed the First Bank sign while driving down the CCC. It was during the day...not sure if it lights up at night. I know they have a branch on Williams Blvd.

As for the Mid-City project...the area for the proposed project is the most reasonable area I could see. It's mainly light industrial right now...with the Sav-A-Center on Carrollton...and the old hospital on Jeff Davis. I hope it goes through, but does meet some basic aesthetic requirements to blend in with the overall Mid-City feel. If this gets built, the Rock & Bowl center gets redeveloped, and the Carrollton shopping center gets rebuilt...that could be one nice shopping hub for Gentilly, Mid-City, and Lakeview.

Does anyone know the status of the bioinnovation center project that was suppose to be built on the old Wirth bldg site on Canal St.? Last I heard, more than a year ago, it was still a go but that it was delayed a few months due to increased construction costs. But there has been no sign of activity since the lot was prepared. That end of Canal would be greatly enhanced if it gets built, along with Khoury's redevelopment of the Krauss and old Texaco buildings that appear to be in some state of construction.

Good question! That building is also the former Hotel Jung. Architecturally, it's a good, solid building. I have always felt that it had lots of potential, but that its various owners never quite put enough money into it to make it come into its own. This would be a great opportunity for a total renovation. As I recall, a few of the rooms there weren't very large. Maybe it could be renovated into a smaller, but nicer property. It's been many years since I've stayed there.
