Baton Rouge Growth and Development

You know what would be neat, is if when they where doing all that work for the riverfront development if they laid out permanent tracks for the trolley like they have in New Orleans and Shreveport

That would be a great idea dan326. The trolley could run from LSU to the State Capitol and Casino Rouge. I hope the Riverfront Plan go be pulled off. Other places with riverfront developents like Louisville took 10 years or more. The projects are sometime so large that they need to be done in phases over a long period of time.

I know this is getting away from the subject, but I was curious now....

Do you guys say "trolley" instead of "streetcar" in Baton Rouge? If you are a born and bred New Orleanian, and you say "trolley" instead of "streetcar" in the city, you will be disowned and sent away in disgrace. ;)

Isn't that what it's called? A "trolley"?

Don't want to ask any questions too personal, but how old are ya'll?

I really don't know if there is an official name for it, actually. It seems like they are called "trolley's" in most cities, but calling it a "trolley" in New Orleans is an easy giveaway that you're not from around these parts. It's just part of New Orleans' culture, just like you'll never here a New Orleanian say "median" as the common term here is "neutral ground."

Example: You've probably almost never heard "Saint Charles Avenue Trolley Line" in comparison with "Saint Charles Avenue Streetcar Line"

Hey Dan, I'm 26 and I call it a trolley typically. But people from New Orleans usually call them streetcars. My parents call them streetcars, because that's what people used to call them here when the city had a large network of them.

Sorry, look's like I missed this. Brian's one of the senior citizens on UP. As for me, I'm 21.

I know a few people on this board who are older than me and might take issue with that.

As for me, I don't care. I'm kicked back with a Bud Light, feelin good, and reading the forums. Talk away, podnuh! :alc::mellow:

Haha, oh I'm just kidding. But when I first joined I really was suprised at the number of the forumers that are still in high school and college, personally I was expecting the average age's of the forumers here to be much higher.

Same here. Once I talked to you a little bit and you told me how young some of the members were, and I started seeing people tell their ages, I was floored. The intelligence level among these young people is astounding as well. I say "young people" like I'm older tha 26, but sometimes that's the way I feel. I catch myself saying, about teenagers, "those damned kids!!"

 Imagine what it will be like when you actually have kids!

But seriously, if you compare the younger members from UP to members at a forum like SSC, it's pretty amazing. If I was a younger member at SSC, this is all you would get out of me:

NEW ORLEANS IS THE BEST

YOUR CITY SUCKS

IF YOU DONT LIKE NEW ORLEANS YOU SUCK

NEW ORLEANS IS THE BEST IN EVERYTHING

.......and on and on..

Personally, I consider myself to be one of the younger members on the forum, but I'm getting up there now too!

 No doubt.

I got that "your city sucks" out of a supposed adult here on UP, so I can imagine what it would be like if it were a kid saying it.

Hey, you're old enough to drink - legally - so you've passed the point of no return. Soon you, too, will be old.

It seems like just yesterday I was just yearning to be 22, completely out on my own, and now, in some ways, not so much.

I've some found information on a new shopping center called Acadian Village. It will be located in the area boarded by Interstate 10, Acadian Thruway, and Perkins Road. It's were the Books-a Million is and the Wal-mart used to be. It will be demolised to to make 130,000 sq ft shopping center. I would have gotten some pictures, but it won't let me copy the address. It says in the arcticle that it is an upscale retail center so it should be nice. And thanks for the back up Richy. :)

^ Where did you find the info ? This is the same developer that got Bonne Carre/ La.Tech Park, and the Capitol House hotel renovation started. And proposed the Laurel Tower too. So you are right, it's gonna be nice. I think residential will be added to Acadian Village too.

I went to the Chenevert Architects website. I was looking up some of the architectural teams and stubbled across this information in one of the portfolios.

^^ I know it's only 5-stories^^....but gheesh it's something ! Better than nothing. I enjoy seeing NEW Construction going up ! :silly:

Hey, 5 stories is worth bragging about. When First Louisiana built its headquarters in south Shreveport a few years back, I was hoping for 5-6 stories but it ended up being only 3.

I've got some news on Riverplace Condominiums. I just happened to pick up one of the LSU news papers The Daily Reveille and in it it had an article about downtown and in the article a few paragraphs about the condos. According to the article the condo is still 36 stories and ground should be broken in the fall, with construction beginning before January. The date on the paper says July 20,2006 ;so I asume that the information should be pretty accurate.

Well since the paper is from today, I would think that information is up to date. Great news! I'm glad to hear the tower is still 36 stories and that construction should start soon.

^Thank you for that great news Dan !!! I need to go find LSU's The Daily Reveille, I'd love to see the article myself ! They are always changing for sure ! NO MORE HURRICANES PLEASE !!! That's been the hold-up...1st with Ivan the Terrible". Then nasty ole Katrina. RiverPlace could have been nearly finished by now ! 18% increase in construction $cost with steel and concrete did not help either.

* If Nashville can build a 65-story Signature Tower; then BR should be able to pull-off a 36-story condo tower too ! The Signature Tower fed-off of the new 31-story Verdian, The Veridian fed-off the 28-story Cumberland. With the New Riverfront Masterplan for BR you can see all the Future High-Rise development they envision. So RiverPlace can do the SAME ! Trigger/Egnite more High-rises for Downtown BR !

BTW The renovated Hilton Capitol Center will open Aug.31st just in time for LSU Football season. That's just two-block's from RiverPlace, so it's gonna be "ELECTRIC" in the Fall. Two City Plaza should start in the Fall too !!! They need a fancy crown or spire/spike there to become BR's 3rd tallest .... BR needs a new-look modern/millineum High-Rise office tower !
