^Good question Dan :dontknow: Your guess is as good as mine.

Some more infil development.....

Group to build 13 new homes in Old South BR in a new area called "Cypress Park"; where South 18th Street dead-ends on the south-side of Terrace Street near City Park golf course; the latest effort to revitalize neighborhood. Should start in two weeks. Based on the "Katrina Cottage" style of modular homes.

Thanks for the updates Dan  It's exciting to see all the developments happening all over the BR Metro!

Bass Pro wants to be open by Christmas shopping season, that's why they are out there 24/7!!!

I hear Perkins Rowe will be getting a Lamar digital billboard! Would like to know where exactly?? Now I know downtown needs one on the Third Street parking garage.

Good to see lots of first time tenants coming to BR!!! Towne Center, The Boulevard, Perkins Rowe. Baton Rouge is on it's way to becoming a "legit" mid-size city!!!

You are totally right tombarnes  I know you like renovations and revitalization. I have learned to appreciate it. These infil developments have become more common place in Baton Rouge recently. Many smaller infil projects and renovations are dotting the landscape from Southdowns, Old South BR, Garden District, Capital Heights, Old Goodwood, Perkins Road overpass area, etc. There are a few I'm missing.

On the other side of I-110 off Spanish Town Road something similar has taken place. Maybe some more across the last undeveloped tract(decent size) off of Spanish Town Road across I-110 from Memorial Stadium.

But still sprawl seems like it will continue in the surrounding parishes, from Livingston and Ascension 2nd & 3rd Fastest Growing in State. WBR is taking off; Addis is about to officially become incorporated. And in northern EBR Zachary is exploding. Schools have something to do with this too.

Big Projects Force Changes to North Blvd.

http://www.businessreport.com/archives/daily-report/latest/

Work should start in the next two to three weeks on the new 19th Judicial District Courthouse, the first of an anticipated $250 million in construction projects that will go up in a three-block area of North Boulevard. That's causing downtown officials to make plans to reroute traffic and develop parking alternatives. Beginning at the end of June, the south side of North Boulevard (the section closest to the new courthouse) will be closed in the 300 block and will remain shut down for the next two and a half years.

Construction of the II City Plaza office building, set to begin in August, is expected to lead to some traffic rerouting on Convention Street; Rhorer says the details will be discussed in the next month.

The mayor to request $20m of the city-parish's $41m for one time expenses, including the new city square on North St. and surveillance camerance for the police department. The very end has some interesting stuff on new construction:

In addition, the city-parish needs at least two more parking garages for the downtown area, he said.

Plans call for the elimination of the west parking garage on St. Louis Street to make room for a 30,000-square-foot expansion of the River Center to help attract major conventions to Baton Rouge.

Talks are under way with a national firm interested in building a hotel on top of the proposed River Center expansion, he said.

In addition, the city-parish wants to add two floors to the Municipal Building, adjacent to the proposed $100-million courthouse project.

Thanks dinner roll. I was just about to post the same link. There is a ton of very interesting information in that article. I have never heard of a lot of this.

Same here.

That is good news if they can pull off adding a hotel to the RiverCenter Expansion.

I sure hope it's a better looking two floors than the disaster underneath it. I hate that building...and it's all you see from the bridge. It sucks the attention from everything else.

Hell, if they build a hotel on top of the river center expansion the maybe we don't have to see so much of that building anyways. So, what national chains are not represented or under represented in Baton Rouge?

I could see something like a Hotel Indigo working downtown. A Westin would be nice too. Radisson, Crowne Plaza or Clarion aren't generally brands to get too excited about. Omni would be good too. Actually, I think CP is already in Baton Rouge anyway.

Always good to hear some "new" news for a change! Most downtown news sounded like a broken record, waiting and waiting to start!

You ain't kiddin bresident...the Municipal Bldg. is plenty ugly. It will be interesting to see how they will attempt to put two-extra floors on top.

That's the first I had heard of a Hotel too! BR needs a "true" convention center hotel. The Sheraton is really more for the casino; Hilton Capitol Center for the Arts & Entertainment District. The RiverCenter needs an ajoining hotel.

I like your hotel choices Tom

Also good to see the BR Forums more active; like all the projects happening around BR. 2007 is Downtown BR's breakthrough year!

"Downtown Development District Commissioners heard a report about the second phase of construction at the Shaw Center for the Arts. Work will start next month on a liner building between the center and the Roux House. The building will contain 5,000 square feet of office space and 12 apartments. "

"The Stroube's building at the corner of North Boulevard and Third Street is set to reopen in the second quarter of 2008. An agreement for use of the building has been reached between an unnamed restaurant operator and Commercial Properties Development Corp., which is handling the leasing for the center."

^now that was an eyesore with many bad elements. It's good to see that this piece of real estate will used for something else.

I just read on the daily report that DDD is trying to persuade Pinnacle tobuild it's casino downtown. I think that is a great idea, but I don't think that there's enough room for the casinos massive plans? what do you guys think?

Goodbye plantation inn, hello retail development.

http://www.2theadvocate.com/news/business/7949887.html

Uh....perfect....because there really wasn't enough traffic there in the first place.

Then again, that's probably why they are going retail....glad to see the eyesore go in place of a more profitable eyesore.

Richy says that they could use the old municipal dock, but there is a good amount of space in front of Hollywood Casino. I say tear that one down and put Pinnacle there. Then Pinnalce and that developer could work together to make something extra great.

A Westin would be a great fit as a convention hotel next to an expanded RiverCenter.

Is CP^^ refering to Crowne Plaza? If so, we do not have one at this time.
