Diesel is open now. Like I said earlier, the store seems a bit small. But its nice on the inside and out. Hopefully they'll open a flagship on the Midtown Mile.

On the other hand, Ralph Lauren looks pretty big, with two levels and all. Calvin Klien also looks like its going to be pretty big. They both open on Oct 27

I think you may be right about a Diesel flagship on the Midtown Mile. The marketing director for Simon said she courted Diesel for two years and they were reluctant about going in an enclosed mall and thus preferred a streetscape location, but they went ahead and agreed to open the Lenox location. Maybe it is small because in fact they have bigger plans for Atlanta as you mentioned.

While I haven't been "in touch" with the marketing directors of Simon or the leasing agents for Diesel, I highly doubt that they have "bigger plans" for Atlanta and plan on opening a second location. Similarly, Diesel isn't mall adverse. Diesel has several locations within malls including SCP, KOP, Ala Moana, Cherry Creek, Forum Shops, Fashion Show, Aventura, Short Hills, in fact, I would say most of Diesel's stores in the US are in enclosed malls. Similarly, these types of stores aren't ones to quickly open multiple locations and have bigger plans without testing out the market. If in fact Diesel had bigger plans for Atlanta, they would not be wasting the money to create a store now and then relocate somewhere else in a year. Nor are they the ones to open a second shop a year later a couple miles away as it would only draw shoppers away from the current Diesel (of course, if the market warranted a second store, then it would open.)

As far as the comments made by the Simon Marketing Director, she made these comments to the Atlanta Journal, and yes I was aware Diesel had several in-mall locations in the U.S., but in her remarks to the newspaper she said that Diesel is accustomed to usually opening streetscape locations around the world, and they were uncomfortable with a mall location for Atlanta. No reason was given as to why Diesel felt that way about the Atlanta market.

I also guess that SAV and I assumed because Diesel wasn't that large, that a couple of years down the road after testing the market, they might consider opening up a flagship on the Midtown Mile.

Well, they may not open a store as soon as space is open on the mile. But, Atlanta is going to be a very different place within the years to come. I wouldn't be surprise if Diesel or some other store thats in Lenox open a bigger flagship store on the Mile. There is going to be a lot more peopel living on Peachtree and intown period. Maybe they are testing the market with that small store. I can see Atlanta with two Diesels and 2 or more of a lot of other stores

I agree with you on that one SAV. With all the explosive growth in Midtown, and now even Downtown for that matter, I agree down the road Atlanta will be able to support two shops like Diesel or True Religion.

However, it seems our "retail specialist" Mr. M might not agree.

One additional retailer was announced for Buckhead village today.

Loro Piana - clothing and accessories, based in Milan.

Also the Paces Plaza boutique hotel was scrapped and an "ultra-luxury" international brand with about 100 rooms and 42 condos will be announced soon.

I'm glad Atlanta is finally starting to see some big (more exclusive) names coming to town, such as Loro Piana and Etro. Hopefully there are more to come! Given this complex wont be a reality for a little while longer.

Oh yea, developer Ben Carter grew up in Buckhead and he definatley knows what he is doing as far as the retail component goes.

It is going to be streetscape retail like the city has never experienced before.

Ok, so I went to Lenox/Phipps over the weekend! I thought Energie/Miss Sixty had some great stuff, and Diesel was great too. True Religion didnt have as much variety as I thought, and it was rather small. Zara was pretty impressive, very big. Was amazed to see the plasma screen TVs in the main hallway....thought that was interesting, made it feel like an airport or something! the Adidas store was also very cool! It carried alot of merchandise that you cant find anywhere else, althought it was in a very quiet part of the mall(the far corner behind the food court on the bottom floor). Didn't go into the new Belk at Phipps(didnt really care to either) lol

They aren't quite done with the NM expansion yet.....and yes I did notice that RL will be 2 stories! THat is awesome! I think it's the only other store in the mall besides the department stores that is multi-level (someone correct me if i'm wrong). At Phipps I love A/X, Sisley, and Versace, although I didn't really find anything in Versace this time. Hugo is also nice, and Saks. Saks mens selection is remarkable! I went in Gucci too but they didnt have my size in the shoes that I wanted. I didn't end up going to any independantly owned boutiques in ATL this time. I think next time I must definately do that.
