This RFP indicates nothing regarding a downtown convention center. It clearly indicates a desire to upgrade the current facilities.

Exactly.

Exactly. This pretty much kills any idea of a DT facility, I would think. Certainly selling it to a third party would be off limits.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner.

Sucks to lose these jobs downtown but it does open up the site for redevelopment: http://www.greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2014301300077

I hate to lose the jobs too, but as newspapers continue circling the drain, these jobs will be eliminated rather than just moved.  Now we can focus on redeveloping the entirety of the Greenville News operations downtown.

Judging by the stakes visible on the properties, I would say either four or all five of the parcels are being sold.

Either there are two separate projects in this area, or the other parcels are already in compliance?  There are stakes on all of the excluded parcels too.

Reading the document, it refers to residential units, so I guess it will be apartments or possibly condos.

Does anyone know more on this?  gman, is this the project you mentioned before that you couldn't disclose the location?
