Boat Manufacturer to bring 350 jobs to East Tennesee

WBIR (NBC Affiliate Knoxville) is reporting that Cobalt Boats, a privately owned boat manufacturer, is opening a facility in Monroe County that will employ 350 workers and produce 200 boats a year.

Cobalt is a very high end boat. East Tenn. is establishing quite an industry in building recreational boats. I actually own a boat that was built by Tennessee Watercraft which is located in Vonore. This is also the location where several Brunswick boats are built including Sea Ray as mentioned above.

Tennessee Watercraft is better known by its parent's name, Yamaha.

If you ever get to take the drive up 411 Hwy from Madisonville to Maryville including a drive through Vonore you will see some large boat manufacturing facilities.

I know it's not right down the street, but if my memory serves me correct Ranger boats are made in Cherokee County NC Which is the SW most county in NC bordering Polk County Tennessee... as a crow flies we are talking about a distance of less than 60 miles from Murphy NC to Madisonville TN... as road miles goes through the mountains you are looking at more like an hour and a half to 2 hour drive.
