Groundbreaking of the Art Museum

What are you basing that on? Why will this cost more to maintain than a tradional rectangular building of similar square footage? Just curious.

It seems like theres been very little progress on construction over the past month. When I check the webcam, I see workers moving around and occasionally some construction equipment moving, but the building looks the same as it did a month ago. The only thing I can think of that might be different is the concrete on the (so far) 2 story structure and on the slab to the left.

I too, believe work has come to a slow, if moving at all.

Going to go check out the site tomorrow hopefully.

Big crane on the site today and I just saw a tractor trailer full of steel beams drive around the back or the building. The steel structure on the left side went up quickly. None of that was there on friday.

I read the building won't be fully completed until late 2008, so I guess we need to be patient with the process. It is exciting to see more of the steel go up. When the start to put the "skin" on it , it will really start to gather some attention.

I nearly rear-ended someone this week in front of the construction site. They came to almost a complete stop on Williamson Road in front of it to look at it and if I hadn't been paying attention I would have plowed right into them.

I'm finally seeing some curves on the building, on the roof on the far left.

The snow is a nice addition to the view on the webcam. There's not a single flake here at the chesterfield courthouse complex.

There are now steel columns along the entire 'railroad' side of the building. The roof framework is coming along nicely on the left side. But I want to see some SKIN!

Thanks. Yeah I can't wait for all that glass to start getting installed. When they first showed the renderings and then started doing the site work it didn't seem like it would be very large but it's going to be a huge museum for this area. Walking around the site you really get a feel for it's size. Just wish they could have worked the Imax into it though.

It looks like the actual roof is being installed today. I can't tell from the angle of the webcam if its the actual stainless steel skin or just a 'subskin'. Maybe later today it will become clearer what they're doing.

It looks like well over 50% of the skin is in place. This project is really starting to come together.
