A sculpture would be cool, but I would favor something more traditional.

So cool! 3 internationally known sculptors will present their proposals Friday for the sculpture that will grace the front plaza of the new ITP station. They are looking to commission $470,000 for this new sculpture.

Well there goes my flippin' idea... Blow everyone else out of the Grand River.. I have a clay mockup scupture ready and wating to be blow up and casted.. geesh.

There are still areas in and around the Station where they will be putting artwork, so don't give up Rizzo. I might see if they can hang some of my photography in the bathrooms next to the "Johnny Advertising" stuff

I've heard rumors of Richard Hunt one of the finalists. Chicago-based African-American artist, strong influence in Benton Harbor where he has a studio. His Column of the Free Spirit was the first piece comissioned at Meijer Gardens for their Sculpture Park.

All three are very interesting, and are proposed to be about 30' tall. I can't find any online pictures, but for those of you who have seen them, which is your favorite?

I like Dennis Oppenheim's "Journey Home", although I can understand concerns about skateboarders

It looks very similar to THIS.

You can see them in today's GR Press page A3-4, or B4 in Friday's paper.

BTW Greedo, Richard Hunt's piece is very much like the one you linked to.

I prefer Oppenheim's too. Hunt's proposal is interesting, but not one of his better pieces. It seems too constrained. Same with Perlman, who actually does a series of circular works that are much more compelling.

I just saw it in the Press. It is an incredible sculpture with a wonderful meaning. The whole voyage home theme just makes sense.

I wonder if he does logos.....

Glad to hear folks enjoyed Andy's article on the flouride commemorative sculpture. He did a great job, and Brian got some awesome photos, don'cha think?
