Townhouses in the front, retail in the back

5 posts in this topic

There's a new development near me with townhouses that, instead of having a backyard or backdoor, have retail bays in the back. So the townhouse living space ends up being adjacent to, and above, the retailers.

Is this a new trend also seen in other (your) cities, or is this unique?

I'll try and get there tomorrow while there's still enough daylight for my cheap camera to get some decent pictures. I think you guys will find them neat.

I have seen this in Charlotte. It's only one development though and it too is brand new.

I've never seen or heard of this type of development that has townhouses in the front and retail in the back. My guess would be that most zoning codes here in the US prohibit this type of development from being built.
