2007 Detroit Federal Transit funding.

$20 million may be a lot now, but at least in 10 years, there will be no multi million dollar need for repairs on it, like a highway would need. Furthermore, we all know that the highway we built with that 20+ million would be ignored as we built more wider roads in the middle of nowhere.

Transit is an investment, now and in the future. An investment now, to provide a service to the people who need it, and in the future when we build our communities around it. At a certain point in the future, it will have paid for itself (in terms of the money that would have been used for building roads and repairing them on a regular basis, that last a mere fraction of the time a transit line would).

It's progressive thinking that needs to occur in order to curve the pattern of "growth" and development that is ruining our region and state. It makes me nervous that Grand Rapids is lightyears ahead of "Oakland County" and Detroit and friends, when it is a fraction of the population.
