Coldwater Creek will be moving into the old Pier One Kids space while Rolly's Toys will be taking over the Kirkland's space.

Is Rolly's Toys the same as Rolly's Kids? As in the store at Reynolda Village? And if so are they closing up the Reynolda shop or adding a second store?

My guess would that the Thruway store would just be another location. I imagine the other store does a boat-load of business at Reynolda Village.

Way back in the day, the predecessor to Rolly's at Reynolda Village was a toy story called Kaplan's which bought out Tiny Town Toys (my destination of choice back then) that was at Thruway. Food Fair and Woolworth's along with Thalhimer's, Bocock-Stroud, Davis and New Market Grille, among others, were still in operation at the shopping center back then. How many of the current retailers are actually local, Winston-Salem based stores like the one's above (save Woolworth's, of course)?

Just off the top of my head, there are still several local merchants at Thruway:

Dewey's Bakery, C. Eyewear, The Carving Board, Shoe Mine, The Jewel Box, and New Balance Winston-Salem (independent franchise), among other regional tenants that are locally owned.

I think Thruway has done a decent job of keeping locally owned stores. In addition to what Steven said, the smoke and lamp shops on the lower level have been there since as long as I can remember. There used to be Stone Mill Bread, but that merged with Dewey's. I believe the nail salon, DIGITS, and Christopher's Formal Wear are also locally owned.

ah Dewey's, the best bakery, IMO, in town. I can't get enough of their moravian sugar cookies. I love stopping by there when I see family in Clemmons.

On my way to pick up something I ordered last night, I walked Thruway from Fresh Market to New Balance and I noticed Dewey's has renovated their interior very nicely! It has a very warm, rich feeling now.

Yes, Dewey's! It's one of Winston-Salem's greatest secrets. But, didn't they hire Livengood the former Krispy Kreme CEO to run it? If so, I hope he doesn't destroy Dewey's too.

Dewey's was also featured in Paula Dean's magazine!! It's a great place, I luv the Moravian cookies and the Moravian Sugar Cake!!!

Sadly, yes they did. I believe he was voted the worst CEO of the year by CBS Business after his empire came tumbling down and all the secrets started to become exposed.

On my way to pick up something I ordered last night, I walked Thruway from Fresh Market to New Balance and I noticed Dewey's has renovated their interior very nicely! It has a very warm, rich feeling now.

Dewey's is one of the best looking stores in Thruway now. They only did minor renovations, but they worked really well.

Rumor has it that Saul Centers (owner of Thruway) is in talks with Trader Joe's to takeover the soon-to-be vacant Fresh Market space. Just the fact they're talking is enough to make me happy. I pray that TJ's comes!

My cousin has told me that Blockbuster plans to close the Thruway location. Citing an unjustified increase in rent. I haven't seen anything in print on this or go by there... anyone heard anything to confirm this?

RE: Trader Joe's. It's the perfect spot for one. I think they're coming

RE: Blockbuster. It was a good idea when they came to the mall, but I think the traffic has been low there for a while. That would make a good spot for a new restaurant.

Last weekend I took some photos with my phone of the new stores coming to Thruway. You can't tell what the interior will look like on either store, but it's just a good confirmation that they're coming.

After looking at their website, it looks like Rolly's will be moving from Reynolda Village to Thruway, and not opening up a second location like some of has had thought.

i really like the updates and new stores. i always loved thruway shopping center becasue allthough it has several national chain stores, many of the stores and restaurants can only be found here making them very special and exclusive feeling

Thruway's always been a favorite of mine because it does its own thing, regardless of what's trendy.
