The Goodrich Apartments, located at 333 - 339 South Division, are planned to undergo renovations. The building was renovated in 1993. The $3 Million renovation will renovate the 14 affordable apartments (LIHTC), 9000 square feet of commercial space, and improve the project's parking and landscaping.

The Goodrich Apartments are not in the Herkimer Building. The old Herkimer Hotel is on the other side of Goodrich street and houses the new Taquitos Mexican Restaraunt while the Goodrich building houses the new location of the Grand Rapids Senior Neighbors Center.

The Herkimer is due for renovation in a couple years. Dwelling Place wants to make the 100 or so "closet apartments" into larger apartments.

So google maps is wrong. They show 333 South Division as Hotel Herkimer.

I hope it remains brick.

Me too. Otherwise I'd have to retort to GRDad: "Progress... At what price??"

Thank God they're finally getting to work on that one patch of Cherry... I've been familiar with that one block of downtown since the 1980's because it was a Moguls course even back then. A new red brick road will fit in with the rest of the area's renovation nicely.

I believe there was talk of a pocket park at part of the realignment.

There will be a pocket park. Here's the city report on it: https://www.ci.grand-rapids.mi.us/index.pl?...cument_id=10703

I'm excited for it to be done as it's the easiest bike route from our house to Founders, but I don't like feeling like I'm going to go flying off my bike as I ride over the uneven brick surface. I have no problem with bricks, but that part of the street was out of control.

The project is on schedule to have all underground work completed in early September. Following Labor Day, the contractor plans to begin work on the road subbase in preparation for pouring concrete that will be the base for the new brick street. This phase of work will also include construction of new curb, gutter and sidewalk and will take until the end of September. At this point, the overall project is on track to meet a mid-October open to traffic date.

Ugh.

A 9-5 joint in a building that could have really contributed to the night-life of the area with the right tenant.

If they anounced a nightclub, people would have gotten on to complain "ugh, another nightclub near Ionia. Didn't some just go out of business?"

:)

Picked up this small tiny bit of info from the press, Lambert Edwards & Associates is relocating from 171 Monroe Ave to 47 Commerce.

That's actually awesome news. Another nightspot to go under in a year? When there will be one right across the street? Yeah right.
