2008 Republican National Convention

McCroy is considering passing up on the bid for the 2008 Republican Convention. He says it would be too disruptive to the city given the HOF and other construction.

Apparently the city got an invitation to bid on the 2008 Democratic Convention as well, but he said he had no intention on bidding on that event.

Not surprising, ask any conservative or Republican and they will tell you that McCrory is about about as far from being a right wing conservative as the Pope is being Jewish. He doesn't hold many conservative philosophies as some Republicans do, then again, Charlotte voters keep voting him in every year.

Politics aside (and I can't believe I am agreeing with McCrory on something) bidding on the convention is overkill. We have enough on our plate. And while the getting the Nascar Hall was a great coup, I don't think Charlotte is big enough to snag a national convention anyway. Why waste more time and money? We are still a third tier city regardless of what the koolade swillng boosters say.
