Burt I also went to the AutoShow... on Sunday afternoon. There were tons of people there and I'm sure there were even more on Friday and Saturday.

Maaaan I really wanted to go to that but ended up being too short on time. Glad to hear the turnout was good. What were some of the hot cars there?

Does anybody you know go to Colonial Downs when seasonal races are going on? I've been and have had a wonderful time - even winning a few bucks.

I wish they would add slot machines!

Indian Reservations in more agressive states, like Florida, have opened casinos. They are very smart, but Virginia's tribes are not as swift. They're missing out on an opportunity to get rich, IMO.

Virginia tribes don't have Federal recognition and without out it they cannot open casinos. From what I've read, they've been trying to get it since 2001.

I liked the Shelby Cobra Mustang... mmmmmm. There were some cool concepts there too.

Yeah Mustangs all around have been looking good the last few years. American manufacturers are really stepping up to the challenge of designing good looking cars and a lot of them have gone back to their muscle car roots. I like the way they are blending retro and modern styles together.

Wow!

The 6th Annual Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k has reached its capacity of 20,000 participants, and is closed for registration. Since it was started in 2000, it has become the 4th largest 10k in the country, and the 22nd largest race of any distance. It is the fastest growing race in the country.....

If you want to check it out still or root for someone you know that is participating, the 10k takes place on April 1st!

Monument Ave 10k Reaches Capacity!

....You sure about that ???

FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED AMERICAN INDIAN TRIBES;

( Scroll down to 'North East' and then 'Virginia')

http://www.indians.org/Resource/FedTribes99/fedtribes99.html

Ok last post on this... I think there is a lot of conflicting info out there. This article says the Pamunkey are still seeking recognition even though their reservation is Federally recognized. Perhaps there's a difference between a tribe and a reservation being recognized. Honestly, I doubt even the Federal government is certain of what's going on. And like wrldcoupe said, there are a lot more than 2 tribes in Virginia.

Just for a laugh here's Bush on tribal sovereignty... Sovereignty is sovereign

The Irish Festival is actually next weekend (25th-26th). I'm fairly certain it's been the week after St. Patrick's day the last couple years.

You're right, BGW. It is this coming weekend - 3/25 & 3/26 (Sat. & Sun.), and as you point out, has always been held the week after St. Pat's Day. Thanks for clarification and pardon my error. :)

Don't forget the VCU French Film Festival at The Byrd in Carytown for three days beginning Friday, March 31st.

When is the Strawberry Hill annual horse race? Sometime in April, I believe, at Colonial Downs?

I met some people at a party last night here in Manhattan who are planning a trip to Richmond to hear their friend, soprano Fabiana Bravo, sing NORMA with the Virginia Opera at the Landmark Theatre on April 2nd.

And they are flying Jet Blue and staying at The Jefferson!

I guess this could go under here.

Two projects in limbo over funding

Two "legacy projects" for the local 2007 commemoration might not be developed because of a lack of funding, officials overseeing the planning efforts acknowledged this week.

These include the fireworks and the trail expansions. i really hope they at least keep the fireworks. IMO, thats a pretty big thing that a lot of people were expecting.

Lots of activity in town this weekend.

20,000 will run in the Monument Avenue 10K.

The French Film Festival begins tomorrow at The Byrd Theatre in Carytown.

Virginia Opera presents "Norma" at The Landmark Friday and Sunday.

Does anyone have other activities to add?
