And if the opera is not your cup of tea, a block away at The National you could see and hear RED VOLUTION Friday night (02/17) and/or The National Tour Send-off of FAULTLINE Saturday night (02/18.)

With The Landmark, Carpenter and National Theatres plus The Coliseum offering a variety of entertainment this week and into the future, downtown Richmond will be pretty active.

:offtopic: I wish a news source would do a picture story on the load-in of THE LION KING today at The Landmark Theatre.

Parking and traffic must have been horrendous in the Lower Fan last night. Close to 8,000 were at The Siegel Center cheering the VCU Rams to victory while another 3,500 packed The Landmark Theatre to see and hear THE LION KING.

See the Sports thread for coverage of the BracketBuster game.

Meanwhile, here is Susan Haubenstock's RTD review of THE LION KING:

Happy Beer/Clover/Green day, everybody!

Richmond is big on St. Patrick's Day, which includes thew new SHAMROCK THE BLOCK. Last year brought in 25,000 attendees. The festival this yer has a bigger band lineup, more kids' stuff, and more green! So go out and enjoy yourself (safely, of course! :good:)

Tomorrow, Sunday March 25th, the entertainment venues clustered on East Grace, East Broad and East Clay Streets in Center City will be teeming with activities. In fact, the programs are timed so that an eager fan with varied musical taste could see at least parts of each performance.

CENTRAL VIRGINIA JAZZ ORCHESTRA, Rhythm Hall at Richmond CenterStage, 7th and Grace Streets, at 3PM.

ASKING ALEXANDRIA/TRIVIUM, The National, 7th and Broad Streets, at 5:30PM.

THE ZAC BROWN BAND, The Richmond Coliseuim, 6th and Clay Streets, at 7PM.

All of the venues are within 3 blocks of one another.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Zac Brown Band will literally fly into the Coliseum. Some of the musicians will make their entrance soaring 40 feet over the crowd.

Just a reminder that the French Film Festival continues through tomorrow.

Whie 40,000+ people were running down Monument Avenue in a 10K race and gathering in Monroe Park, many others were lining up at the Byrd Theatre to see the French movies and listen to representatives of the film industry who have come to America for the festival.

The G40 mural display is drawing attention to RVA's growing penchant for art.

Another event is The Richmond Street Art Festival which gets underway tonight with a discussion and lecture at The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. But the real action will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the old power plant building across the courtyard from BLACKFINN on the Haxall Canal and on the flood wall near OFF THE HOOKAH and The Hat Factory (now called THE EPIC THEATRE.)

Here are some more photos of The Street Arts Festival by Richard hays of Shockoe News blog:

http://shockoenews.com/2012/04/13/richmond-street-art-festival-first-day-photos/

If anyone is confused about the location of the Street Arts Festival it is at the eastern end of Browns Island on the south bank of the Haxall Canal at the foot of 12th Street. The art is being painted on walls of the old Power Plant. The flood wall begins just east of the power plant where artists are also painting colorful murals but none of them are shown in the postings.

More than 4,000 turned out yesterday to participate in The Civil War and Emancipation Celebration. There were exhibits (and even ballet) at Tredegar; more than 350 took boat rides in two small crafts plying the canal, and a number of people walked the Slave Trail. Others were up town at Virginia Historical Society inspecting a Lincolnian document on display there.
