The First Lady, Michelle Obama, will make a campaign stop tomorrow (Thursday, September 13th) at 2PM on the stage of The Carpenter Theatre at 6th and Grace Streets.

It's free, but tickets are required. If still available they can be obtained at:

Organizing for America, 408 East Main Street (downtown) or in Henrico at 2720 Enterprise Parkway, Suites 103 and 105.

All tickets went quickly for Ms Obama's 2PM appearance today at The Carpenter Theatre.

A huge traffic snarl can be expected in the center of downtown with all the attendant security and probably some street closures..

I wish I could have gone! I RSVP'd but I had time conflicts with my classes when tickets were available for pickup.

Tommy, here's what you missed at the Carpenter Theatre today. There was a long line of people stretching down Grace Street who could not get into the theatre.

And lest anyone thinks WTVR CBS Channel 6 showed political favoritism, the GOP nominee is also shown in this TV clip delivering his Fairfax address in front of a platform filled with ladies.

From WTVR in Richmond:

Nostalgia note: When I was a kid WTVR (which, incidentally, became the first TV station in the south) was designated as WMBG radio. Its slogan was "Down where the South begins."

Tens of thousands of people annually attend the Festival of India. According to the RTD, it is the second largest ethnic event held in the city.

It will be held from 11AM to 9PM next Saturday and Sunday (September 29th and 30th) at The Greater Richmond Convention Center in downtown Richmond.

It's finally here.

I went with my wife and Carrie to the largest musical gathering in the Commonwealth, and the largest folk festival in the country

Saw many performers, enjoyed great food, danced away on the Dominion Dance Pavilion, and enjoyed views of the river and skyline from Brown's Island and Tredegar.

Going back tomorrow for a taste of the second day (Saturday) only afterwards, at 10:15, we're going to the Byrd to see TOTAL RECALL (2012)

Little Miss Carrie is keeping late hours this weekend. :)

RVA, did you check out the pilings of the old railroad James River crossing which may support the proposed green pedestrian "high line" connecting Richmond and Manchester? They are in the river just west of Manchester Bridge near the 'dance' tent. In fact, there is a lower piling in that alignment on the canal side of Brown's Island.

That was the one? Huh.... yeah, I did notice it.... and I'm sure the other 200,000 people who crowded Brown's Island saw it too. ;)

Really would love for Richmond's BridgePark RVA proposal to follow through! :)

The 2012 Richmond Folk Festival exceeded last year's attendance figure of 200K.

Here are photos of the event held last Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday, closing down about 6:30PM on the final day.

It spread over the hills of The New Market Corporation, along the cobblestones of Tredegar ruins and across two bridges to Browns Island.

Chihuly's huge glass works exhibition at VMFA is the talk of the town as it opens a 4 month stay this Saturday.

Susan Howson at RVANews has compiled a list of other things to do and see this weekend including opera at The Carpenter Theatre; Henry Rollins at The National; Cameron Carpenter on the mighty Wurlitzer at The Byrd Theatre, and a Celtic Festival on the grounds of Richmond International Speedway.

Just watched a CBS TV streaming of over 15,000 people listening to The President speaking today in front of The Carillon tower in Richmond's Byrd Park.

Here's an RVANews photo of the crowd from the President's POV:

Also prominent on news channels are reports about the big storm called Sandy. Projections are that Long Island just east of Manhattan may get the worst of it.

Heavy rain and winds expected in Central Virginia convinced organizers of Sunday's "Grazin' on Grace" to cancel. About 25 restaurants had planned to participate in the event along Grace between 4th and 7th Streets.

It wil be rescheduled.

When is The Richmond Marathon? Saturday, November 10th or Sunday November 11th? Or, on BOTH days?

This story from The Wall Street Journal leaves me confused:

http://online.wsj.co...wsj_share_tweet

Today's story by Vic Dorr in the RTD satisfies my confusion about the running date for the Richmond Marathon. It will be this Saturday, November 10th.

Last year slightly more than 17K participated. This year, with a boost from nearly 600 who had hoped to run The New York Marathon, 18,100 entries will participate in The Richmond Marathon, half marathon and HVA Virginia 8K. Some spots are still open, but already it has attracted the most entries in the event's 35 year history.

"I keel you" comedian Jeff Dunham and his cast of characters will return to Richmond on January 23rd.

His last appearances drew about 7,000 fans to two shows at The Landmark Theatre about a year ago and were so successful they were taped and became the seasonal opener on Comedy Central.

His January show will be at The Richmond Coliseum:

The official World Premier of Speilberg's LINCOLN will be tonight in Los Angeles.

But, Richmond also is hosting a red-carpet invitational premier of its own tonight at the Byrd Theatre in Carytown. It will be followed by a 10PM showing in the same theatre for local actors and crew members who worked on the film.

My guess is that it would not be difficult to crash the late showing since The Byrd is a fairly large theatre.

And, if you can't get in, there are plenty of nearby bars. :)

General release is set for November 16th Nationwide. CineBistro at Stony Point Fashion Park will have a lavish opening and I suspect 8 or 10 other local movie houses will screen the film beginning on the 16th.

The Yuletide season is underway in RVA...to which the next few entries in this thread will attest.

The local fire department assists with The Martin Agency's Christmas decor in Shockoe Plaza. (The Plaza is actually the 'Slip' portion of the area known as Shockoe Slip.)

Click photo to enlarge.
