These are gross generalizations but there are basic similarities and differences between the 19th Century rowhouses you'll find in various areas of the Northeast. This is just based on my own observation and have no academic architectural backing.

Rowhouses in the NYC area tend to have a bit more dimension on the front face. Bow windows are common or various types of texture between the parlor and upper floors. They also tend to have more steps between street level and the parlor floor. Here's a pic of a typical Brooklyn brownstone...

In North Jersey you see the high parlor floor, but less variation in front face. There are occasionally arched treatments above the front door, and rarley even above windows. Most windows tend to appear entirely rectangular. Here's a pic from Hoboken...

and in Jersey City...

In Philly the rowhouses in Old City tend to be closer to the ground. They have relatively flat front facades. They are very Federal in their design. They often include window shutters or and occasionally gables.

The rowhouses pictured from Trenton seem to blend these characteristics of NYC/NNJ and Phila fairly well. The entrances are low to the ground like Philly, but their shape and ornamentation are like those seen in Jersey City. They're quite attractive, IMO.

There are of course exceptions to these rules, and 20th Century rowhouses developed with different styles entirely.

Secaucus?

Nope. Getting colder again. Here's a photo clue!

From where the contest photo was taken I turned to the right and shot this one. There are some generous clues here!

Maybe this will put you on the right PATH :shades:

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say.. Harrison?

:yahoo: w00t! SouthJersey7 gets 3 points! You'll get an additional 5 pts if you can give the transit stop located next to the site. HINT: You know the NAME of the stop already, just add the name of the line (revealed in an earlier post) and you'll have it!

The 5 for street is an alternative, and the 3-pt bonus is still available too! :w00t:

Harrison?! I've spent so much time there (brother lives there) how the hell did I not get it! That's on the Newark Penn to World Trade Center line of the PATH, correct? The station's on Frank Rodgers Blvd.

5 points, Recchia!! :yahoo:

Next time you're on that NWK-WTC PATH train or NJT/Amtrak NE Corridor look to the right just beyond the Harrison station (located on Frank Rodgers Blvd) and you'll see this mammoth industrial complex!

Knew it! I mean I had a hunch... :D I've only been on the NEC a couple times riding the train from Trenton to NYC but that did look sorta familiar.

Oy. I guess this one was too easy! haha.

4 points to Jerseyman4 for the county and town! :yahoo:

5 points to flotown for Casino Pier! :yahoo:

TransAction was a good conference this year! Lots of good things were discussed. HOPEFULLY the policy makers will be influenced by the discourse.

Anyway, I'll be in Savannah through Monday and don't plan on checking out UP much while I'm gone. Look for next week's pic Monday night or Tuesday!
