Council to Consider new Marina at Lake Oliver

Columbus is finally about to build a new marina -- at Lake Oliver off River Road, where there already is one.

Columbus Council today will consider approving a bid of $838,085 from WCCI of Columbus to demolish and rebuild the city marina building on Lake Oliver Road, along with other upgrades to the recreation area.

According to a bid summary, the work involves "demolition, removal and disposal of existing structures and features; grading, drainage, paving walks, waterfront improvements and tie-in to existing utilities; construction of a new marina building; landscaping and irrigation improvements; and new floating docks."

The project is among those funded by the city's 1999 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. WCCI has offices at 6001 Coca Cola Boulevard in Columbus.

The city marina is on the south end of the lake, which is 8.5 miles long and 2,150 acres between the Oliver Dam and the Goat Rock Dam.
