First it was Fantasia Barrino of High Point who won the first place title on FOX's popular hit show American Idol back in 2004. Now the person to look for now is Chris Daughtry of McCleansville, NC (a bedroom community just outside of Greensboro east of the city). Of the top 24, he has the best recording voice and will likely make it to the final 3. Chris didnt even audition in Greensboro, he auditioned in Denver weeks before. The Triad seems to be getting alot of exposure from this show and in Reality shows in general. 3 former Survivor contestants are from Greensboro. Kelly Wigglesworth, who was runner up behind Richard Hatch and Jeff Varner fom the Austrialian Outback. Jeff is noe a weekend anchor on FOX 8 in High Point. This season, a High Point native named Austin is contestant.

It might be more apt to say North Carolina than the Greensboro area as the home to the American Idol contestants. One's from Rockingham, one's from Jonesville, one's from Albemarle and one's from McLeansville - geographically, that's a pretty diverse swath of the state. Sure, Fantasia is from the Triad - but, she's from High Point - let HP claim their own daughters and sons.
