Add Siloam Springs to the list of NWA communities now seriously developing plans for a new high school. Rather than being a 2nd one, however, this will replace the existing one. Interesting that this school location will probably be off Cheri Whitlock Drive in the northeast part of the city, while the current high school is over on the west side of town not far from John Brown University.

They're projecting what appears to be an enrollment of around 1,500+ students in 10 years conservatively. That will make, barring anything catastrophic, at least 8 Benton/Washington high schools with 1,500 or more kids: (2 in Bentonville, Fayetteville, 2 in Rogers, Siloam Springs, 2 in Springdale).

I've heard rumors that Goody's clothing and Chilis are both considering locations in Siloam Springs.

Getting restaurant and retail like that would do a lot to bring Siloam Springs more into its own as one of the major cities of NWA.

cocothief,

Whether it be Chili's or Ruby Tuesday (as I've heard) some chain sit-down restaurant is going to owe whomever convinces it to open a Siloam Springs location a hefty bonus.

That place is practically CRYING for a restaurant such as those two. It's a city of about 17,000 folks now, with a lot of people from Arkansas and Oklahoma who drive in for work or travel each day. Next month they're going to open a Hampton Inn there, for Pete's sake...not every city gets one of those, either.

Razorbackfan, you've got that right. Pryor, Oklahoma (2 counties west of SS, with a population that at best has to be about 1/2 that of the city) has a Ruby Tuesday's already and has for at least a year or 2.

Meanwhile,

Siloam Springs is part of NWA. West Siloam Springs, OK (which seems to stretch a couple miles into Delaware County, OK, with the city limits abutting northern Adair County, OK, I believe - Adair has a large Cherokee population, and I'm sure Delaware has as well) is part of Siloam Springs. And, reflecting the Joplin, MO newspaper report of a couple years back, it looks to me like the addition of Adair and Delaware counties into the NWA metro is becoming more likely. Doesn't mean I have to like the afore-linked reason for it, though.

Yeah, they sometimes stick with certain states but I would have to say that in Joplin's case they are on a major interstate (I-44). I think that might be a factor with a chain sitting up shop there before NWA. That should continue to change as we continue to grow and someday when 540 becomes I-49. Although that does put Joplin as a crossroads with 44 and 49 as it does Ft Smith so that could also have something to do with it in the future.

I haven't seen anyone else comment on it yet, but Siloam has two big things going against a major chain restaurant's emergence there: one is restrictive liquor licensing and laws, and the other is John Brown U, which is enough of a conservative Christian force to sway commerce in the area.

Looks like the Cherokee Casino is adding a $108Mil 140 room hotel that will be added to the current casino that's under construction in West Siloam Springs. Sounds like this is literally right on the border between Oklahoma and Arkansas.

I saw that. I wish someone could post the picture that was in the DemoZette today. Its very Frank Lloyd Wright looking. Or a cheap casino knock off of FLW. Either way, I was pleasantly surprised by the rendering because I dig Arts & Crafts architecture.

Thank you, Mith.

One other thing...the Demo-zette said that West Siloam Springs, OK is also fielding interest from (at least) two other hotels and restaurants. Apparently they (like Jane, MO and Bella Vista) are working with Siloam to get SS sewer/water service. Now, we've talked about the nice "sit-down" restaurants coming to SS before...I've been told the holdup on those is the lack of ability to sell liquor in Siloam.

West Siloam Springs, with its gambling and liquor stores, would have no such compunctions. It would be weird to see a Siloam "restaurant row" develop just across the border in Oklahoma.
