Tiger Woods killed by the GHO when he decided to leave it off his schedule.

Ironicly. he killed the PGA event that had the first black champion, Charlie Shifford, and the first black sponsor. Sammy Davis, Jr. In fact, Davis may be the only black man to ever be a title sponsor on the PGA.

If Woods had put Hartford, even ocassionally, on his schedule, the event would have had no problem getting sponsors and remaining one of the best attended events on tour.

That is the explaination, pure and simple.

everyone can see that a pga golf tournament with the second highest tour attendance means nothing to the pga, nothing to the players, and nothing to television interests. they just wanted it to die. and it did. they want something else. this should stop all blaming by anyone about any venue's "fans" or a lack thereof, as being the reason why teams, tours, leagues, etc. leave one place for another. "fans" no longer need to blame themselves for being abandomed. let me say conversely that "fans" need not take credit when a new team, tour, or league drops in on you. its never had much to do with the fan. its all about everyone else but the fan. the next time someone tells you that "ya gotta support the team, man", ask that person, "for what"? Be free.
