I did hear that they may bulldoze that dump of a Radisson and build another hotel and/or renovate/redevelop that piece of land.

the N&O had a story a few weeks ago regarding new owners at the Radisson. The new owners want a complete overhaul of the hotel building both interior and exterior. I believe they stated that they wanted it to remain a Radisson but close to 3 1/2 stars.

The Radisson looks like a middle school built in the 1960s from the outside, but the rooms are decent, the furnishings are nice, and the service is OK. Wouldn't call it 3 1/2 stars or anything, but it's definitely nicer on the inside than on the outside.

Having to walk on the outdoor breezeways between the buildings of the different wings of the complex definitely sucks on hot, cold, or rainy days, though.

The Sam's Club at Harrison is moving ?next year? toward Cary.

The Umstead is now open. I also noticed in the N&O they opened a new restaurant, called Heron.

The Umstead has already made it into the "Leading Hotels of the World" guide and is the only hotel in NC in it. Fearrington is still a Relais-Chateaux inn.

So did they get the coveted 5-star rating? (not that I'll ever be staying there)

^ They finally received the Mobil 5-diamond rating. The only other facility in NC to receive this designation is Fearrington House.
