established metro Detroit brewery

I can't imagine it would be Motor City. Doesn't quite make sense in GR..

My money's on Atwater:

Atwater Brewery is also entertaining the idea of expanding beyond Metro Detroit. Rieth is considering options in places like Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, East Lansing, and Traverse City. Although no specific plans have been made, the idea is appealing to Rieth.

"It's something we would like to do if the right opportunity presented itself," he says.

It would be nice to see the south side of the building. I didn't like the look from that angle in the original rendering but it's always hard to tell what the finished materials will look like.

I like the rectangular cut out in the stairwell on the new rendering. A nice little detail to break up that solid wall.

That could be a sign, Rick has been a longtime tenant with CWD for a while.

There's also this? They've partnered with the BOB in the past to create an ArtPrize beer, but is it hinting at something else?

They also provide beer for Horrock's sip and shop quite a bit, I believe.. They've definitely got connections here.

All signs seem to point to Atwater.  I was really hoping for Kuhnhenn or Jolly Pumpkin.

Plus the soon to open Harmony Hall/original Eastown Harmony location.  Current Michigan basic law:  May have multiple brewing facilities. Each brewing facility located in Michigan requires a separate Brewer license. Each license must be issued in the same legal entity.

Vandermill will have a second location too but that a "winery" so different laws.

I know Atwater gets a lot of hate so we'll see how that flies.

Mlive has an article about the Rowe. Here's the developers reasoning for ripping out the ballroom:

But the old ballroom and lobby had to be torn out to make way for construction crews who are reinforcing the building's cast-iron and concrete footings and digging a 49-car parking garage in the substrate that once held a canal, Koster said.

"Our No. 1 priority was to save the building," said Koster. "The ballroom was pretty badly damaged. We deemed it impossible to save the ballroom and the building."

They also said they had to replace 400 pieces of Terra Cotta on the exterior. Interesting.

I don't blame them. In bigger cities, they generally don't mess around with old interiors on historic buildings. They just gut the inside and leave the facade as much as possible. Look at the Target on State Street in Chicago. Most of the old ornate details of Carson Pirie Scott department store are gone other than on the exterior.

Same thing I saw a lot of in downtown DC a few years ago. Complete gut of the interior and they would leave what almost looked like a skeleton of the exterior.
