Bojangles at Third and Independence

Recommended Posts

To be clear, as I said earlier in this thread, I think it's incredibly sad they didn't do exactly what you are describing. These kinds of projects discourage pedestrian streetlife; too many like it, and it's difficult to imagine a pedestrian district emerging in that area.

Nonetheless, it's clear that drivers prefer frontside parking -- and not coincidentally, whenever developers have their druthers, they put the parking in front of the building.

Yeah, that is true about drivers preferring that traditional suburban format. There probably was a chance, though, that those drivers about to head into downtown would be a little more open to an urban design, but we won't get to see that.

Now, without seeing the actual design, I have no idea if this is how it will be, but maybe they just have it hugging the lot just east of their site. The setbacks there aren't very large. So maybe the effect could be a short, urban setback on 3rd, but a long setback on Indy. It isn't as great a design as a corner-oriented building, but isn't as bad as it could be. The only assumption going into that is that notion that our Planning department isn't completely anti-urban, and a little dash of wishful thinking.

Well, it appears this is now under construction. It actually takes up a lot more land than we thought. They tore down that building next door (behind the red jeep in the pic just above).

I still can't believe this will just be a suburban Bo's. :(

I was eating there with a work associate and he bit into the chicken and grease squirted out and hit his glasses.

I know I'm late to this party, and I agree that this could have been a better orientation than it'll turn out to be, but I had to acknowledge this. This is one of the funniest things I have read in a long time. I can NOT get this visual out of my head! Good times....

Bo's is superior to anything KFC or popeyes could ever put out. Especially their biscuits.

I have to vote on Popeyes with the best fried chicken and fixins but Bo's wins by a landslide with their biscuits. The furthest north you see one is in Maryland, forget where exactly but its due east of Washington, DC. If i ever get a Bojangles craving, its only 200 somethin miles away from Central Jersey, that being along US 301 in between Bowie and St Charles/Waldorf. Ive done the Waffle House crave-drive in Bethleham, PA before (45 miles away) but i dont think ill be doing a Bo's run, especially with gas prices these days! :(

I drove past this project earlier this week. It's close to done and it looks absolutely like every Bojangles I've ever seen. A sad waste of land in an urbanizing area, though I guess no different than the nearby Arby's, or the brand-new Wendy's...

Well it has the "new" prototype look of Bo's.. from the outside at least, I agree that it is a "sad waste of land in an urbanizing area." heh...

On what grounds are you saying it is the worst fast food restaurant? You're clearly not basing it on the food.

Perhaps from the elitist liberal ideology that everything "suburban" is bad and that it must be a "quaint" little coffee shop or an "ethnic" foodshop to be anything truly meaningful. But meaningful to whom? Most people like Bojangles and most people like fast food and most people prefer suburban. Americans are figuring out that Limousine Liberals and thier ideology are totally at odds with middle America's values. No offense to that poster, he may not think so, but liberal ideologues have infected so many...

Yet you come to a website known as "urban planet". Interesting.

I like Bojangles. I like fast food. This is a discussion about what kind of building Bojangles should use to sell fast food. In that particular location, it's a shame they've chosen a suburban design.

And not for nothing, but the vast majority of luxury cars belong to Republicans.

fat, lazy, tax hatin', ideology twistin', proud and stubborn.... bloated capitalism. i'll take that with a side of cajun fries.

i agree that the new bo-jangles wasted an opportunity @ having a flagship store @ this location... but still this store will be wildly successful, as it is enroute for many occupationers.

Liberal socialists always think THEY are the only ones to dictate how cities should be, that THEY are the ones who know what WE want, and that everyone else is too stupid to know what they want. THEY are the only ones with enough knowledge to determine how things are. It's just another way for them to attack free enterprise capitalism and the American way and impose thier communist social engineering and social planning ideology. I wonder why Americans continue to sit by and let these communist organizations such as the Sierra Club and Smart Growth people to continue to shackle the American economy and reduce our wealth and competitiveness. People need to wake up.
