Top Projects

So what does everyone think the top projects were that:

1. Fell through, but in the end was for the better.

2. Fell through, but for the worse.

3. Got completed, and was for the better.

4. Got completed, and was for the worse.

And these need to be kinda recent (so no Book Needles or Fisher Buildings!).

Mine are probably cliche...

1. The rest of the ren cen.

2. The mass transit system that the people mover was supposed to connect to.

3. Campus Martius.

4. The civic center. Reclaiming the river front was good, but I think they bulldozed too many city blocks to do it. Jefferson is big and sorta isolates it from the rest of downtown, which right there is a bunch of offices anyway. If they would have left a few more blocks, I think today we'd have a greektown styled entertainment area there, with pedestrian friendly streets seperating hart plaza from the rest of the city. Anything else would be better for where the city hall was put, and everyone knows about cobo.

1. This thread (ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh!!!!!!!) :-)

Nah, here are my answers

1. Fell through, but in the end was for the better.

> Michael Jackson's theme park

2. Fell through, but for the worse.

>The aforementioned Transit *stuff*

3. Got completed, and was for the better.

Campus Freakin Martius

4. Got completed, and was for the worse.

Asside from any of the demolitions, I'd say Joe Louis Arena and the entire west riverfront concrete disaster.

I never heard about a micheal jackson theme park! what are the details behind it?

I did a quick search and found this on the failed theme park at this web site The Michael Jackson World Network.

July 9th 1998

Michael Plans Michigan Casino

Michael announced intended plans to build a casino and theme park complex in Detroit called 'Majestic Kingdom'. He has teamed up with Detroit-area Businessman, Don Barden to build the complex, a proposed combination of a hotel casino, botanical gardens and an amusement park called the 'Michael Jackson Thriller Theme Park'.

The deal is said to hinge on Barden's ability to reverse a recent decision by Mayor Dennis Archer and the city council to award casino licenses to three other interested parties.

(Apparently it sounded like a good idea at the time  )
