Small infill project with a pending rezoning application at the NE corner of Providence and Wendover. With the land sale across the street on the SW corner, something tells me this intersection is going to look very different in the next 5-10 years.

Even Myers Park has a crane.  The Opus Myers Park condos at Providence and Providence.  Plus the Manor Theater.  anyone hear anything else of redevelopment on that site?  I hope that falls apart.  Today.

Luxury Condos going at the corner of Cherokee and Providence, per article.  Looking at a map, I think it might actually be where Cherokee meets Laurel.

I know there has been much discussion about condos Uptown, but based on the price of land Uptown, this type of project seems more likely.

Eastover is also a prime location for affluent middle aged business executives and empty-nesters looking to downsize from their 6,500 square foot mansion to a "modest" 2,000 square foot condo.

Definitely looks like Cherokee and Laurel.  That's a great location. 

Is this the project that everyone was worried might take out The Manor, Laurel Market, etc?

Waked around the Opus development a little today. So many metal staircases everywhere!

Each unit is a floor specific residence so those are likely emergency/secondary access (I think)

Passed some drilling  going on at the Harry & Bryant parking lot at Providence & Moravian - anyone know anything about this?  More ultra-lux condos?

Wish something would happen with that old Mecklenburg furniture store next to Harry & Bryant. Its such a big building and is pretty ugly at this point. I assume its on nice sized piece of land as well.

Couple more from the Myers Park Eastover area.   Any further word on any redevelopment of the Manor Theatre site  where my parents had their first date?  Last photo is that boutique apartment complex called the Draper on Randolph.

The Manor Theater will not re-open after the virus epidemic.

The mini-shopping center the Manor was a part of always stuck me as an under-use of the location, between Myers Park and Eastover.  I don't know how the ownership of the shopping center is split up.  Nor do I know offhand what kind of density would be permitted by zoning.  But it seems to me a mid-rise luxury condo, atop a combination of structured parking and retail/restaurant, would make sense.  Probably a great view of Uptown from 5th floor and above.

that is sad to me to see the Manor theater close and I hope nothing happens to that shopping center.  at least keep the character of the center as that is high barrier to enter high income area the space would be desired by many retailers I would think.

That's really unfortunate.  I never had the chance to see a movie there, but we need unique local places like Manor Theatre around the city.

There will be pearl-clutching.  But not from me.  Not that I wear pearls.

Years ago, I lived  within two blocks of the Manor.  Never saw the inside of it, never wanted to. 

Built in 1947, of no particular architectural style other than Cheap Post-War, the Manor has no aesthetic claim to justify its preservation.  Let's just say it's no Carolina Theatre, and no Fox Theatre (Atlanta).  Being 73 years old is not, by itself, sufficient to make it indispensable.  The rest of the block is similarly drab.  Bulldozers should be the first step to the creation of building a suitable entrance to Eastover and Myers Park.

But I'm guessing a protracted battle over demolition, zoning, planning, and construction will ensue.  No shortage of lawyers in the hood.

You're right about it having no aesthetic claim but I think a case could be made for a cultural one. The Manor was the only theater around (as far as I know) that would show a lot of arthouse movies that weren't in normal theaters. With it closing, where can people go around here to watch that kind of movie? It's a real shame a city the size of Charlotte won't have a theater like this anymore.
