MIAMI of course. Now please end this thread. Can the south stand on its feet for once and allow someone to be like us. Why do we tend to feel so inferior in relation to all of the other regions of America.

100 percent agreed on every word of your post. Your also forgetting about the massive amounts of television being produced for the latin american and carribean markets which are filmed and broadcast from Miami. Additionally Networks such as Fox News, Mtv,Vh1,Disney Channel,Hbo, Discovery Networks all have there latin american headquters and studios in Miami.

And yes Miami is the Miami of the world.

Miami seems to win this competition. The city is so unique and exciting that television and movies are drawn to it. Hopefully other cities will get more time on film though.

A lot of movies focusing on black, and specifically hip hop culture have been filmed here, but I'd like to see more movies and TV shows about other typed of people filmed here too.

Each city has had their moment in the TV spotlight:

Houston: Reba (very funny)

Dallas: Dallas, of course!

Atlanta: Designing Women

Nashville: All of the country music stuff

New Orleans: Cops and Girls Gone wild Mardi Gras editions (Haha) Not to mention a ton of News Coverage this year, although this isn't really positive publicity

Abd I'm sure the other cities have had their time on TV, maybe not in a series but in other things

If we're talking about movies and TV shows, New Orleans has a lot more going for it than Cops and Girls Gone Wild. The city is the center of the film production industry that is becoming very big in Louisiana. Film production studios are being planned and built throughout the city, and I believe there are 3 different feautre films being filmed in New Orleans right now, and that number would be much higher if Katrina had not rolled through. The TV show "Thief" on the FX Network is set and partially filmed in New Orleans, though Katrina forced most of the filming to Shreveport, along with many other TV shows and movies. Also, there are many movies filmed in parts of New Orleans that are not set there. I've seen some movies that have used Uptown to double as another location, as well as downtown, Mid-City, including the Fairgrounds Racetrack, and Zephyrs Stadium over in Metairie. The film industry is very busy in New Orleans right now, and the activity is picking up more every day.

Funny thread. At the glitz level it's all about cities; at other levels it's more of a statewide thing: here in NC, the infrastructre of Wilmington, the big festivals (FullFrame is startting to be the international draw) centered in the Triangle, the film school in Winston and the documentary center in Durham are all very symbiotic... It strikes me that the NC industry seems most known (when it is recognized) for indie/art/documentary films, and (at the other extreme) low-budget quickies...

I'd say the Florida cities, might get my vote, just for glitz. Wilmington is a powerhouse though, more in a behind-the-scenes kinda way, but the infrastructure there goes back a while. As an offhand guess, I'd wonder if at least some industry types - producers, directors, writers - like the anonymity of the place (relative to other bigger Southern cities). It's big enough and accessible enough of a city to get things done, but small enough to maintain a bit of focus.

Some of the more acclaimed (tho perhaps esoteric) things set in or filmed in NC would include Being There (1979, d Hal Ashby, filmed), George Washington & All The Real Girls (2000 & 2002, d David Gordon Green, filmed and set), Blue Velvet (1986, d David Lynch, filmed and set), Hudsucker Proxy (1994, d Joel & Ethan Coen, filmed), Evil Dead II (1987, d Sam Raimi, filmed), A Color Purple (1984, d Steven Spielberg, filmed), Loggerheads & Dear Jesse(2005 & 1998, d Tim Kirkman, filmed and set), and Empire Records (1995, d Allen Moyle, filmed).

Of those, George Washington was one of the only debut films to screen in comeptition at both the Sundance and Cannes film festivals (Green, who was 25 at the time, had co-written the film while at NCSA in Winston and filmed it using a cast of mostly locals); it has since been released on DVD by Criterion.

Barbara Kopple's Harlan County USA was also just released on DVD by Criterion; she is (I believe) NC's lone resident Oscar-winning director, for American Dream in 1991.

* 14 Hours (2005) - Made-for-TV film set in Houston, but filmed in Canada

Though Houston and its suburbs are a prime spot for the filming of movies, the storylines do not usually include the story taking place in the city. (For example, The Chase (1994), was filmed entirely in Houston.

Washington DC (Arlington Road, Warning:Parental Guidance ),

San Diego ( The Chase )

Detroit (Robocop II )

Los Angeles Bill:On His Own (the reason they chose Houston is because parts of the Heights more closely resembled pre-war LA than did the original).

I dont know whats funny about Wilmington not being glitzy, neither is Hollywood. So I guess you could say they are similar on that point. Yes, there are very wealthy people in and around Hollywood, way more than Wilmington of course. But what does that have to do with the movie productions.

I guess none of you have been to LA. Beverly Hills is glitzy. Bel-Air has the ginormous houses, but Hollywood Hills (western section of Hollywood, neither of which are cities but sub-sections of LA) has the highest concentration of celebrities. Almost every young celebity and big celebrity resides in Hollywood Hills including Lohan, Duff, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Dunst, Kutcher, basically anyone you can think of.

Miami is definitely the Hollywood of the South.

Nashville anyone??? I mean it ain't just country music around here ya know. Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise, others have houses here. The various musical artistic not withstanding of course.

And then there's Robert Altman's Nashville, a fine fine film...

Who lives in Metro Atlanta...let's see- Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston, Elton John, Jane Fonda, Ludacris, lil' Jon, a lot of the CNN anchors (Frederika Whitfield, etc.) All of the weather channel people (not really celebrities though) Ciara, Bow wow, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodard, I think Ted Turner, Outkast, Tyler Perry, Madea!, Jimmy Carter, The King family, The girls from TLC, that's all I can think if

Hmmm...Whitney and Bobby - there's two to be proud of. I eagerly anticipate the lurid, ghostwritten autobiographies I suspect will be arriving roughly coincident with the next comeback attempt.

Actually, I think Whitney Houston gets one good chance to pull off a Tina Turner, blame everything on cracked-out Bobby, get in the studio and come out with a make-or-break comeback album a l

I forgot all about this thread. I've got to brag a little because I'm proud of the huge leaps my area has made in the film industry over the past 2 years. ;)

Shreveport-Bossier recently ranked #6 on MovieMaker magazine's Winter 2007 list for the top 10 places for independant filmmakers to live and work.

http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.ph...st&p=690098

Here's the Top 10 list:

1. New York City

2. Philadelphia

3. Austin

4. Albuquerque

5. Las Vegas

6. Shreveport/Bossier City

7. Memphis

8. Miami

9. Portland

10. Salt Lake City

Currently in Shreveport-Bossier, filming is underway on Harold & Kumar 2, The Last Lullaby, and Cleaner starring Samuel L. Jackson. Production of a Queen Latifah movie called Mad Money is set to begin this year, and in March Stephen King's The Mist is supposed to begin production as well as The Better Man, starring actor/comedian Martin Lawrence.

Filming recently wrapped on Blonde Ambition, starring Jessica Simpson, and Homeland Security, starring Antonio Banderas and Meg Ryan. 2007 is off to a stellar start in Shreveport-Bossier's film industry, and 2006 was an excellent year.
