Expert offers tips to give downtown a lift

Recommended Posts

Below is a link to an article by John Gallagher, a Free Press Business Writer, that was published in the March 17, 2006 Detroit Free Press.

Christopher Leinberger, one of the nation's gurus of downtown redevelopment and a professor of real estate

at the University of Michigan, told Detroiters at the Downtown Detroit Partnership annual meeting on Wednesday, March 16th, that their downtown can become one of the nation's best.

I thought you'd all be interested in his suggestions....they're all things I've read here in the forum written by you guys.

Yeah, but sometimes other people need to be told this stuff. Just like Detroit needs to be told a billion times they need light rail. That's all I EVER heard yesterday when I took my New York friends to Detroit. Fix your city with transit!!

I thought downtown had a Business Improvement District. I swear I remember reading one time that a lot of the main streets like the medians of Woodward and Jefferson Ave were landscaped in part by the BID.
