I grew up in Cheraw, SC, 8 miles south of the NC border. As one of the first towns with a "community antenna" (the forerunner of cable tv), we had three CBS affiliates (Charlotte, Florence, and Columbia), three NBC (Charlotte, Wilmington, and Columbia), two ABC (Charlotte and Columbia), SCETV, and two independent stations (WRET and WCCB) in Charlotte.
