BMW Charity Pro-Am at the Cliffs

Word is the next BMW Charity Pro-Am may be the last. The Cliffs would like to do something else that would raise more money for Charity than that event has been able to.

^^^That is most likely a false rumor. I have worked at the BMW Charity Pro-Am the last five years and this year will be my sixth. Every year, the event gets bigger and bigger and the Cliffs along with BMW is committed to this and has an obligation to it for many years to come.

Why would they get rid of this event though? Why not just add another event? This event has been tremendously successful, and has helped to put Greenville on the map in a "big" way.

The reasoning behind the comments was that for the amount of money raised to much strain was being but on the residents and the communities. That they want to do something that would raises millions of dollars rather than hundreds of thousands.

He did not say what that was, but I guess it could be anything, maybe even another type of golf tournament, would it not be cool if his connection to Gary Player could get a Charity PGA event?

He already has a major charity golf event. It may be coming to The Cliffs Communities then? It would definitely be larger than the current BMW Charity Pro-Am.

Kevin Costner plans to bring his band to Greenville as part of the tournament again this year. Last year they performed their first ever live concert at The Cliffs Valley. This May they will perform downtown at the Main and Broad intersection.

I just found out earlier today that I have now been promoted to work on the committee at the BMW Charity Pro-Am. I will have a pass that will let me go anywhere including the clubhouse on any participating course.

Yes. Fugi-Film used to fly their blimp over the courses during the tournament.

I remember the Fuji airship flying over the predecessor to the BMW Nationwide event, at the Verdae course.

Looks like the BMW Pro Am set a record for the Nationwide Tour in dollars raised for charity. It generated over 2 million for charity, a sum never generated by any other tournament on the Nationwide Tour.

not sure what they did different, but compare that to the total raised by all the past tournements combined and they did very good.

I'm sure some of it had to do with the auction, where ONE item brought in over $900,000 -- granted it was for a lake-front lot on Keowee (i think it was). That's almost half right there.
