United Solar Ovonics to add 400 more jobs!

http://www.mibiz.com/absolutenm/templates/...9&zoneid=25

With this announcement, the total employment will be nearly 800 by 2010 (with possibly more expansions to come).

If the link doesn't work, go to MiBiz and look down the right hand column.

Greenville is on the upswing, with the other announcement recently of a refrigerator maker moving an Indiana production facility to Greenville, adding 157 jobs:

Well the great news and the expansion is good news here - but the city is still hurting really bad. The newest developer that's been building condos had to stop because they haven't sold 1 condo in 2 and a half years, Starbucks is closing down after coming here in 2007, we lost a really great athletic sporting clothes store, some ma/pa shops downtown have been closing, and we're sitting at approximately 13 percent unemployment rate in the county.

With all that being said - I hope 2009 with a new president will start to slowly make things a little bit better around here.

Ironically, looking back at the past unemployment records - when George Bush Sr was in presidency - the unemployment rate for Montcalm County was in the exact same range - even peaked at 17% during the time.

When Clinton was in office - unemployment went down to 3%

Wonder what, if any, effect this might have on United Solar Ovonics:

But now, Reuters is reporting that polysilicon prices have fallen so far that solar power is in trouble again -- or, to be precise, that segment of the solar industry that specifically steered away from dependence on polysilicon -- so called thin solar.
