Construction on Tulsa's new downtown arena is about 25 percent complete and project leaders say it won't be much longer until the building's steel frame is assembled.

Thursday will be the one-year anniversary of the start of construction on the B-O-K Center.

Those problems have caused project officials to delay the arena's scheduled opening by at least five months, to September 2008.

In south Tulsa on Riverside Parkway the Creek Nation has finally started construction of the casino complex. Phase one will cost $120 million and take 20 months to complete. When completed the total project will cost between $400 and $500 million and will be on both side of the Arkansas River between 81st and 91st. It will include hotel, riverwalk and shopping areas in addition to a 200,000 square foot casino.

This area is next to a lot of new river development in Jenks with the Oklahoma Aquarium and the Riverwalk and in Tulsa with the nearing completetion King's Landing. A low water dam is in the works just south of this area, it should be done in about two years (unless the new islands plan slows things down) and will allow for water taxis to connect all these areas and attractions. The area already is linked to Riverparks and has a pedistrian bridge.

Also in this area is Tulsa Hills, a new million square foot "town center" style shopping center. Tulsa Hills has just started construction and lies just two miles west of this area of river development.

I don't see how the island is secluded if it connected to the east bank of the river (Riverside, Midtown, Uptown, Brookside areas) by three bridges. This island will be such a destination, seclusion would be the last word that would come to mind.

But if it was connected to Tulsa by the west bank, you would have to go around, cross the river at the 11th Street Bridge or 21st, and then come back around.

Seven Floors of the Mayo Hotel To Be Converted Into Loft Apartments

Seven floors of the historic Mayo Hotel will be converted into loft apartments. There are a couple of businesses already operating in the building and the ballroom has been restored. I wonder what will be done with the other floors? It seems this would be perfect for a "boutique" hotel.

Here's the newest photo of the BOk Center:

Just decided to skim thru your Oklahoma/Tulsa Projects thread, out of curiosity.......used to live in Tulsa MANY years ago (early '80s) and loved it; a great, metropolitan-feeling, clean small city; wonderful riverfront park.........now been a longtime resident of Charlotte, NC, which has really become a Sunbelt boom city in the past decade or so........just saw architects' model of your new BoK arena --- VERY cool! Our 'signature' skyscraper in Charlotte was also a Cesar Pelli design, about 15 years old now, and virtually every time I glance at it (which is several times a day, 3 miles from my house) I thank the powers-that-be at Bank of America who had the vision to hire a world-class architect like Pelli to create such an elegant icon for our city. Y'all should be excited about this project.

Groundbreaking for Mayo Project in January

The Snyder family is joining forces with the Presidian Group of San Antonio to renovate the first nine floors of the historic Mayo Hotel into hotel rooms. The remaining nine floors will be apartments. It's about time that this project got off the ground. This should do wonders for Tulsa's downtown.
