How do our major cities stack up as it regards the number of downtown hotel rooms? Anyone have any data to contribute? I'm sure Myrtle Beach reigns supreme in this regard, but in terms of traditional CBDs, how do Columbia, Charleston, Greenville, and Spartanburg fare?

Interesting topic. Spartanburg is probably lowest on the totem pole with 332 rooms and 2 hotels near downtown: The Marriott (250) and Days Inn (82).

I think Spartanburg's market has the most room for expansion. The Marriott is essentially the only nice hotel downtown, and it is constantly being booked up. I think that another downtown hotel is not too far off. There is a B&B downtown too, the Inn on Main, but I did not include it.

Interesting topic! I'd really like to know how our cities are doing in this regard.

My guess would be that Charleston would have the best numbers for the number of rooms and the occupancy of those rooms out of our "traditional" cities.

For Greenville, the new Hampton Inn is opening soon at Riverplace! There was talk at one point about a hotel occupying space in the Tower at Falls and Broad. I hope that Greenville's new hotels in the Suburban areas won't rival downtown too much. There's two new hotels being built at the point. Hmmm.

Well I'm most familiar with Columbia's DT hotels, so let's see what we come up with.

• Columbia Marriot City Center: 281 rooms

• Hampton Inn Columbia-Downtown Historic District (supposedly, this hotel has the highest occupancy rate of the chain): 122 rooms

• Holiday Inn Coliseum: 168 rooms

• The Inn at USC: 117 rooms

• Clarion Hotel Downtown: 163

• Comfort Suites Downtown: 81

• Best Western Governor's House Hotel & Suites: 101

• The Whitney Hotel: 74 rooms

• Claussens Inn, 29 rooms

Total: 1136

Coming soon:

--Hilton Convention Center Hotel: 222 rooms

--Sheraton on Main: 135-138 rooms

--Hotel at Kline property in the Vista: ?

These will push the number over 1500.

Here's what I've found on Greenville's CBD's hotel market:

Hyatt Regency- 327

Westin Poinsett Hotel- 208

Holiday Inn Express- 80

Hampton Inn & Suites Greenville- Downtown - 115

Grand Total of 730 rooms. There's atleast one B&B I can think of, but it's not included.

I am curios to know if y'all think that B&B's should be included or not in this topic. I bring this up only because Charleston is full of them, but they will probably be hard if not impossible to tabulate without someone from the City giving us the statistic.

Thanks for all your work! I don't see the Doubletree on Church Street here--do you have any numbers on that one? Also, the Indigo Inn is pretty sizable.
