Urban Music Village

I would say that the Press has it close enough to start this new thread.

Developer may put GR rap on map

Could be Interscope, but more likely other labels involved.

Concert venue

Recording studios

Artists space

Buyers toured with Logie when he was Mayor

Los Angeles based studio owner with local connections, working with two others from the Detroit area

I have also heard that it may include vh1, mtv, HOB, Hard Rock Cafe and a host of other big names, maybe even include Google somehow (???). Haven't figured that one out yet.

Possibly HUGE residential portion

Possibly 2,000,000 sf office space

1,000,000 sf retail/entertainment

Maybe a pedestrian bridge to GVSU

Possible kayak park

Discuss? Share other rumors? I'll wait to see more, but I think it could be a pretty exciting time for GR!

Somebody made it big in the world, specificly someone from GR and this is their time to contribute back to their hometown.

Discuss the folks that haven't been here in a long time that made it big in entertainment... You might find the secret developer or some leads :dontknow:

The site between Market and Grandville avenues, south of U.S. 131, would include a satellite campus to develop new hip hop and urban music talent with a recording studio and a concert venue as a regional draw.

This quote makes me wonder if there are going to be other satellite campuses in other national regions.

Also I heard Sony's BMI label too.

I like that someone would remember their roots. Also in other threads its been suggested that because GR has been a great test market before, we might be the perfect fit.

I like the multiple business's mentioned by GRDadof3, but I am still going to wait for an official announcement.

Hammertime?

Can anyone possibly see Google working in a "search, storage, retrieval" mode for the music industry? I hear this "possible" Google office may only be 150 people or so (and could be unrelated to this music village). Maybe it's tied to the VAI/MSU thing :dontknow:

OK snoogit, now you're just in denial :P Did you read the article? The local PR agent all but confirmed it (as much as he could).

As long as this isn't too closely aligned with religious music I think this is the absolutely best possible development to improve Grand Rapids' national cultural image :w00t:

If there really will be national talent roaming around here just imagine what can happen to the local music scene! I'm really excited :yahoo:

If they are "looking at other sites", it makes me wonder if other cities have the same hype with a $1-2 billion / 10k job mystery development. Indianapolis was mentioned, what other cities could we be competing with? In many ways Indy has more to offer than GR, but there is obviously something here that has them looking. Also I don't see how this could be as big as they said but even a half billion $ and 5k jobs development would be great. Plus it would be cool to bring more celebs here and get some national recognition in the music industry.

Holy smokes sometimes people write too much in their bios. They may even end up giving away relationships that could deliver some interesting connections to people connecting dots.

A DeVos family connection? I thought they may have some connections somewhere in this.

The recording industry is a multi-multi-billion dollar business with an international reach. They are not in the habit of building junk. I cant imagine anything less than the best on valuable property like this. At least I hope.

Unfortunately record sales have been dropping for the last few years.

Is this possibly tied into technology to end file sharing or to finally embrace file-sharing on the part of the music industry?

Yeah, this will be GREAT for GR. Everyone knows rap & hip-hop artists are wondferful citizens. This will create 10,000 jobs? Why do they need valuable riverfront property for this?

Guys, Interscope is much more than hip hop. In fact, most artists on the label are not hip hop.
