Is anything planned for the huge building that was once going to be torn down and replaced by that amazing urban node of activity (AKA Greenville's "second downtown")?

There are "nodes of activity" going on behind that large building......not sure they are the legal kind........LOL.

La Parilla (yes, the same one originally for Magnolia Park) coming to One Market Point Drive. Construction bids go out April 16th.

Ah, the long-sought La Parrilla. Does this mean the former Bob Evans/Ni Hao building will be replaced or just renovated? If they were going to build at Magnolia, they must have a sizable construction budget, and I think most (if not all) recent La Parrilla openings have been new construction. If a renovation project, it surely must be extensive, including major exterior as well as interior changes. Can you say "extreme makeover"?

The rumor going around is that the building will be demolished. Take this info with a large bucket of salt though.

There's a sign just past the Verandas that says (check my spelling) "Aventine: sophisticated, urban apartments". Why haven't we seen this go before the city?

It did go before the city. That's just the name for the Verandas expansion that is currently under construction.

Verandas phase two has a separate name from the first? Weird.

Edit: Although it may be a phase II, it seems that it will be a completely separate complex. Not as weird.

Thomasville and Drexel Heritage next to Homewood Suites at the Point will be closing. The whole chain pretty much went under.

They're already gone. They closed about a month ago.due to the bankruptcy filing of Furniture Brands International. The company thought it might be able to emerge from bankruptcy more quickly if it eliminated under-performing stores.

They're still open and are having their going out of business sale currently.

You are both correct. When the two stores first closed they emptied them out and took all the furniture back to the warehouses. A liquidation company bought the all the furniture in the warehouses including brands other than Thomasville and Drexel. The liquidation company is now renting the buildings and using then to sell all the furniture. I only saw 1 piece of actual thomasville furniture in the thomasville store. The rest of it was junk. Sad.
