Now its official....they need to complete Market Place Dr. before they allow this.

I wonder if the proposed road on page 10 will connect Market Point Dr to Carolina Point Pkwy. There looks to be a planned intersection on Carolina Point Pkwy between the Hilton and the other apartments. Will they ever Market Point to Miller Rd somehow?

So to the right is the senior housing development and the bottom left is new apartments, correct?

That area sure is getting built up. It’s nice that it has some housing.

Switch them. The left is senior housing. The right is apartment or townhomes.

What is top middle?

You talking about the hotel going up or that big empty spot? The hotel is a Tru by Hilton and the big empty spot is where the old manufacturing plant used to be that was demolished. A hotel will be going up on part of that site soon also.

Yeah, the big empty spot where the plant was- another hotel huh?

Isn't this whole area where the McChesney plan was going to go before the recession? THAT would have been a truly transforming project!

Yes, I was hoping for an expansion of The Point shopping center on part of that old plant site behind Whole Foods. Instead of doing a basic strip center there I wished they had opened that up more and done more of a village type shopping complex with Whole Foods as anchor and some more upscale smaller retailers like they have now. That shopping center has been popular and stayed leased up with quality retail.

The Point, initially, was supposed to be a major development. If I’m not mistaken the project was supposed to come with a hefty price tag of either $500m or $1b in a mixed-use setting. Years ago, there was a video circulated showing aerial renderings of the project — it was amazing. But, as what also happened with Magnolia Park, the plan wasn’t realized and now the development is far-less coherent and ambitious that originally intended.
